We had to wear ties at school as well. A GIRL'S school, and they made us dress up in ties and blazers that looked like mens suits, and big heavy shoes. Kinky much?

 

Each generation tends to re-invent what the previous generations started, so the hippie style that the kids have today might not be the same as it was a few generations ago.

As far as working and paying taxes goes, their usefulness probably doesn't matter either way. They're just part of the culture. If I were to be homeless and broke, and somehow avoided being labelled a hippie, I would still be useless to society in this context.

Exactly. Mr. McSprew, whoever the hell he is, has every right to pour shit on hippies for very little reason. Freedom of speech is a muscle which must be excercised, and I applaud him for doing so. On the other hand, if he doesn't like hippies, why are we still talking about him? Furthermore, neck ties are the work of Satan and should be treated as such.

Well, I may be an old hippie, but I can at least spell *hydraulic* correctly, and I am not even in the business.

 

Sometimes (always?) we criticsize and even persecute the very thing we envy the most; more so if we dont' stand a chance to be that.

To be a hippy has never been easy, if it were, then everyone would be one. .

It challenges society, and upsets a lot of people.

You can't fake it, and it would look ridiculous if you dressed the part only (which in itself may take some courage, in a world of fashion propaganda).

Of course the only thing that you can do is agree with others that it aint cool, but you know inside it is the coolest. )

Not to add any more to this topic, but I feel that "hippies" or whatever you wish to call 'em, are very progressive with the changing times. I'd say that it's a big part of the scheme of things.

 

So if you don't like hippies, why would you join a HIPPIE website, making a post under the "HIPPIE" to HIPPIES? Anyway, if you have your own life, and you are truely happy 99% of the time you really don't care with what someone does with their life. So if you have this successful business and happy life, why are you wasting your time telling like a thousand people, on one of few sites where they are not made fun of or discriminated against that you do not like them?

Ok, having read through this thread it has put me in a rather bitter mood-there's so much anger and dislike. So, on a much lighter subject, if you could go back in time or re-live a memory, where would you go and who would you see etc?

I would love to go back in time to woodstock, i've seen the video loads of times and often dream lol i just feel like i've really missed out on something a revolution maybe.
