Hi Everyone- I know there are a lot of avid barefooters in this forum, which got me thinking, how many of you like to work out in your barefeet? Yours truly tries to work out with the jump-rope whenever my old joints allow me. The benefit to this is depending on the type of surfice I'm exercising on, it only takes a couple of minutes to get my soles nice and black. Now if only the pain in my joints would subside... I was in the city last Saturday night and you will all be happy to know that I didn't have to wait very long before I observed my first barefooter. During the course of the night, I think I counted as many as seven women marching along barefoot. Barefooters of the world unite! All the best, Can't go barefoot enough
I'm a dance instructor and I consider my "work" working out. Most of my co-workers teach in their barefeet, including myself. I love how it feels. You feel more connected with the floor beneath you and I feel so much more graceful and precise, without the shoes in the way. Yea for barefooting!
I do all of my excercising in bare feet, both indoors and out. I even jog barefoot. It feels so comfortable and relaxing. I sometimes walk 10 miles barefoot on paved walkpaths and it doesn't bother me. When I first started doing this, I had to learn to place my feet down more gently compared with wearing shoes. I had a few problems with my knees aching at first, but this is not a problem anymore.
Barefoot dancing has a lot of advantages. Everyone should try it. Bare feet are quiet and gentle. You don't hear all the scuffle of a class full of shod dancers. It allow greater movement, is good for balance, and good for the muscles in the legs and feet. Bare feet are soft and don't hurt if you accidentally step on another dancer's toes. It's good for instructors to let young people dance barefoot. It shows them that dancing is something different than everyday activities and it makes them feel free and creative.
I love to let my "kids" dance barefoot, I think it makes it more fun for them...their parents on the other hand...always have a fit when their kids come out with such dirty feet. *Laughs* I always have to explain myself when their class is over!
Some dance instructors have the kids help out cleaning the floor before the lesson. Kids are ambitious and some just love to run the mop down the floor like a race car. It's good to make sure nothing is on the floor that could cause a cut, and it makes the floor cleaner and the feet less dirty. There are probably some moist-rag type cleaning papers that can be put under mops that are safe for skin.
I would have thought that something such as exercise would be almost 100% within the barefoot domain. Now I admit there are some sports that doing barefoot could be silly, even dangerous, but except for them, I think it would be barefooted all the way.... I don't exercise myself (I should really....... maybe I will), but if I did, I think i'd do it barefoot.
I work out at my college gym, and they won't let you in unless you have athletic shoes on. All the free weights and heavy machines... I guess it makes sense. I take dance classes and yoga classes and I am usually barefoot for them. I always hoop barefoot. yay for barefeet!
It does? Were people dropping a lot of weights on their shod feet, and someone said, "Gee, it's a good thing they weren't barefoot! Let's make sure we never let barefoot people in here!"? I mean, what big problem does that address? I have heard of people going to commercial gyms that also required footwear. I think that if you drop free weights or a "heavy machine" on your foot, even a sneaker is not going to do a hell of a lot to protect you. Blue skies, -Jeffrey
The only time I work out barefoot is when I'm on the beach. Sand is my favorite barefooting surface, and I feel very comfortable running on the beach barefoot. I love running, but I don't feel comfortable running barefoot on other surfaces.
i play hacky sac bare foot it's the only way to play. if the world allowed it i would never were shoes again
