This is really a rant about the public school prison that most of us attended/are attending. Another post reminded me of this lovely story that pisses me off to this day, almost three years later. In 10th grade honors English we had this assignment where we had to draw quotes out of a hat. The quotes were from Frankenstein (the book) and we had to teach a lesson utilizing the quote. Most people got a huge piece of butcher paper, made some bullet points and talked for about 10 minutes. Others did the same but added the wow factor of giving out candy (doesn't impress me). Anyway, my friends and I are not normal and we blow everything out of proportion so within about a week, we spent something like 60 hours making a video as our presentation. We manipulated the quote so it meant what we wanted it to. We wanted to prove to the damn tools in our class what they were doing with their lives. So we decided the movie had to be humorous to grab people's attention, but then be really blunt about our message at the same time. We decided to do a spoof of sorts, of Training Day (except ours was even cooler because it took place in the 70's with tight pants and bad moustaches!). So we actually wrote a script than began filming (which took forever because we did all different angles and such). Our opening scene was the cops running around, jumping over fenses and stuff with guns in their hand. Complaint #1 "the guns look real!" The guns were real, but we got out of it by telling the teacher we spray painted water guns black. The next scene was of the head cop leaning against a car. The shot was on his feet and then you hear Billie Jean by Michael Jackson start. He starts tapping his foot to the beat of the song as the camera pans up his legs. When it gets to the huge bulge in his pants (obviously fake), the camera stays still for two seconds then begins moving up again. Right at that moment, maybe 45 seconds into the film, Complaint #2 "turn it off, turn it off... just turn it off" We were not allowed to show our video. The teacher took it home to "review it" and came back the next day with a list of complaints: there were "real-looking" guns, we had a running joke throghout about the guys stuffing socks in their pants to look better endowed, we had a pedophile priest and drug dealers, and lastly, for one of the last scenes we rigged a firecracker to one of my friends chest and made a remote charge for it, so we used that as a bullet shot... so we had people dying. Our whole message to get across, even with the sock joke, was about how people are so easily fucking influenced by anyone. Its disgusting and I fucking hate my teacher for not letting us play the video that had humor, hard work and a good message put into it. Who are they to say what is appropriate and what isn't. Needless to say, everyone in the class was so intrigued by the first 45 seconds that it got passed around for private viewing to about half the class. Even people that I didn't know were coming up and asking about it. See, see, do something no one else has the balls to do; thats the message of the day. This message is bloody long. I just had to rant.
I hate it when I go way out of my way to fufill an assignment and the calls inappropriate and doesn't show it to the class then send you out of class. That happened with a poem I wrote last year.
Isn't it ridiculous. I seriously want to open my own school when I'm older. I can't stand the public school system. Actually, once i'm through with college I'm running for the board to see if I can raise some hell. All of the people on our board are either parents, or lame 60 year old yuppies. They despirately need someone who has just been through the system. That is me...me me me. I want to tear the district to the ground. ...not that I'm hostile or anything.
man ur so right!!! Its just all censure censure censure (sp?). All fucked up, wer kids so wer stupid and naive and vulnerable, we cant know the truth about life. This is how they conditin you man, turn us all into little sheep, gd little citizens with no brains and imagination to think for themselves Ppl like that shudnt be aloud to teach, its sickening. You shuda complained to the headteacher or smth, even tho he/shes prob just like the rest of them.
