The man who came up with the theory for the Big Bang was a Belgian Priest named Georges Lemaître. I find it entertaining that Modern Science relies heavily (if not entirely) upon the Big Bang Theory and the Big Bang Theory was the Theory of a Catholic Priest and Modern Science claims that Religions are holding Science back. Lemaître came up with the Theory in 1927 and Hubble has taken credit for it almost entirely. Mister Georges Lemaître with Albert Einstein:
Whatever. Gregor Mendel came up with basic genetics as we know it, and he was just a monk who grew beans! The source doesn't make a difference to the substance.
In fairness to the church, a lot of catholic intellectuals are quite keen on science these days. Teilhard de Chardin was catholic priest and paleantologist who believed evolution fitted in with christian teaching, and who has been very influential. How far this penetrates into the mind of the masses is another question - not far I think.
I find it strange that anyone, besides religiously inclined folks, take the big bang theory seriously, as it takes some miracles to happen, in the theory, to get from the big bang to where we are today.
i don't believe in the big bang, it doesn't make sense. fuckin catholics goin around screwing with people's perception of the universe...
