What states can you find psychedlic shrooms in? I would think it would be fun to try to find wild ones one day. I live in Illinois you think there are any around or in IL
The Shroomery has a nice list of active mushrooms by state, you can check it out here: http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area Doesn't look like theres much in Illinois, but from my experience, that list is not even close to "all-inclusive." If you dont have much experience identifying mushrooms- I wouldn't advise picking them from the wild. It can be poisonous and even fatal if you eat the wrong mushroom. However, it is a lot of fun to go out and search for psychedelic mushrooms. If you are interested I'll provide you with a few links to get started. You're going to want to read all of these thoroughly and do some more research on your own. To start, you are going to want to Google whatever species the Shroomery lists for your state, and do some more research on other wesbites to possibly find more active species in Illinois. . A mushroom identification handbook is a GREAT idea if you plan on picking mushrooms. It can help you identify active species and avoid poisonous look-alikes. You can get them all over the internet, try Amazon.com for a nice selection. . Learn to take a spore print. You will want to do this immediately after picking your mushrooms, this can help further identify the species and possible toxicity of them. There are TONS of spore print tutorials on the Shroomery. A nice, simple explanation here: http://www.shroomery.org/5256/How-can-I-make-a-spore-print . Make sure you identify the mushrooms growing medium. This is simply where you picked it from- be it soil, lawns, fields, dung, etc. Obviously, certain active species are known to favor certain growing mediums- so this can help narrow down whatever you picked. The Shroomery also has nice lists of growing habitats for various active species. . Weather is another thing you will want to be aware of. If it has rained in the past two days or so, mushrooms (psychedelic or not) will be growing. So this is when you're going to want to get out there on a hunt. Do research on active species in your state- and know what time of year those mushrooms will be up. I know the Gulf Coast is FLUSH with mushrooms right now (spring-time), but in many of the northern states, active species like to come up mid-summer - autumn months. The most important thing; BE CAREFUL!! If you cannot be ABSOLUTELY 100% certain the mushrooms you picked are psychedelic DO NOT EAT THEM. Like I said, this can be poisonous and even deadly! The Shroomery is one of the best resources for magic mushrooms available online. When you pick shrooms, take a spore print, provide gill descriptions, a picture, stem length, cap description etc and make a post here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Cat/0/Board/3 If you follow the guidelines on that forum, its very likely somebody there could help identify your mushroom if you provide enough info. Be safe, use your head, and have fun! (www.shroomery.org) DONT BE AFRAID TO USE IT!
wow thanks for all the great info i am definitly going to check out the shroomery. Ive heard that some psychedelic mushrooms grow in cow manure but you have to look for them only at night have youy ever heard of anything like this.
Yeah, psilocybe cubensis are notorious dung-lovers. However, there are other species that grow on cow dung that can kill you... so like I said, you have to know what you're doing and what you're looking for. A friend of mine raided a cow pasture down South during the night, and collected a pound of cubensis. And yes, in my experience, many mushrooms like to pop up at night.
I plan on finding a high yield of psilocybe cubensis's tomarrow. It's raining pretty hardcore outside right now, and is slowin down really fast but got the ground good and wet. We have a specific field we usually scope out after a good rain, and expect good numbers. I live in the galveston area of Texas. The gulf area is awsome when it comes to shrooms. psilocybe cubensis are the most common, and to be honest the only kind I really have experience with. So i think its safe to just stick to those. Besides, ive been picking shrooms for years, and all the same species, I feel safer picking the ones I know will do the job and are safe to pick. BTW down here in texas, we get caps the size of cd's and some even bigger. so hopefully tomarrow will be a nice trip. ill try to post pics. peace
