Protest Against Wikipedia !!!

I understood you the first time and I still disagree. Cho has almost reached an iconic status because he is symbol of the most hopeless, oppressed, and tortured individual. The guy who is such a minority that he can't relate to anyone and he suffers and suffers until he needs to reach out and the only way is violence. We humans need to make our connection and when all else fails, violence is always there.

People like Cho are out there, they need our help, and if this guy becoming an icon (not a positive or glorified icon of course, that was never the case, but a symbolic figure) is what it takes to draw mainstream attention to their plight, then so be it.

Removing information from a public medium on basis of content or context (rather than because it is untrue or misleading) is pretty much the definition of censorship. The fact that you're rebranding it doesn't change the fact that you're saying "it is not okay to write about this, unless you do it the way I want you to".

Just because you've not used the word "censorship" (which, incidentally, starts with a C), doesn't mean that you weren't basically advocating it. Now, I'm not in any way saying "censorship is inherently bad", but it's pretty weird that you're so keen to insist that you're not advocating it that you'll completely derail your own thread in the process.

And, as with WS, why not try refuting what's been put to you. For example,

• why not answer the question many have asked regarding Adolf Hitler; would you argue that Adolf Hitler should not have a Wikipedia entry, and that instead pages for World War II and the Holocaust should be used to "discuss" him?

It doesn't matter if the answer's "yes", the only reason I'm asking is that it's impossible to actually reason this out if you're so loathe to clarify or elaborate on your proposal.

But when someone comes on here posting a "call to arms" to protest wikipedia because the website had devoted a page to a murderer (God forbid the "villain" had his story told objectively) yeah it pushes my buttons the wrong way. If Sentient would just come out and admit that what he wants is censorship, then it wouldn't be much of a problem but his denial and general confusion about the subject of censorship, and his name calling is such a stressful and negative experience that yeah I'm going to get worked up a little.

I apologize for suggesting that you were a troll but quite honestly I don't see how any progressive minded liberal can protest an individual of historical significance having his own wikipedia page. It was the nature of the posts too. It wasn't a "hey is it fucked up that we pay so much attention to serial killers?" reflective post. No it was a warcry, "PROTEST WIKIPEDIA FOR ICONICIZING A KILLER!!!" It rubbed me the wrong way and I responded. I won't apologize for that. I did for the troll comment, because it was a lousy thing to say without doing further research into your posts, though I really did wonder how someone who seemed like a pretty intelligent individual (from the few posts I'd read from you) could be in favor of such an attack on freedom.

Again, I'm sorry for responding with a nasty and foolish statement like that but I've encountered sentient before in other threads and there is a clash between us and in this thread in particular I got a little carried away in my irritation with him.

I will say for the sake of clarity that you said a few disparaging and offensive remarks of your own in an attempt to invalidate my beliefs that hurt my feelings. Things you could have avoided while leaving your argument none the weaker, but we're all human, imperfect and say mean and spiteful things. All is forgiven from my end. We'll have to agree to disagree on the issue because I just see this degenerating into name calling. It's no longer a productive conversation.

If you want to talk gun control sometime, alright. I don't have much personal investment in the issue as I don't carry a firearm myself nor does anyone in my family. However, I am against laws that infringe upon individual freedoms and I would vote against acts that would illegalize firearms completely. Stricter gun control? I am right there with you there, but I don't think complete illegalization is the right course of action at this time.

As for your ringleader comment, I honestly don't know who you're referring to.
