Students slam 'brutal' police

I went to a party on friday, it was my friends 21st. I got there at around 2am when there was about 10 police officers at the end of the back alley watching, this is fairly common around Hyde park, Leeds, at least 80% of the area is rented by students so parties tend to be big, loud and free for all. In the 2 years I have lived in this area I havn't seen 1 person injured at any party ive been too.

30 mins after i arrived police entered the party with force, bearing in mind that by this time many people where rather disorientated in a pychodelic haze, the police literally threw people down the stairs and forced several hundred out the back of 2 houses facing eachother across a back alley 3 meters wide.

Once into the alley we where greeted by several more police officers with dogs forcing the crowd down the alley with several students been bitten and hit with sticks. 1 brave student stopped a blow with his arm which was shattered, the attack was ment for a girl on the floor. This injury and others where due the the bottle neck effect created by the alleyway and aggressive and impatient policemen forcing people down the alleyway faster than was safely possible. Nobody was let out the front doors.

After the crowd reached the main road they were confronted by another 50 police who used riot control tatics by standing in 3 lines across the whole street, moving back 10 meters then charging 20 meters. By that point the police had created their own riot which apparently went on for hours longer. Many students wanted to fight for their injustice and unfortunatly there are always a few that want a riot in any crowd.

Imagine a wall of people behind you and this man infront.

That is awful, I am glad that the students are going to make an official complaint. Police shouldn't be able to get away with such brutality.
