Well, my final say on this subject. Sure, if guns had NEVER BEEN INVENTED at all, the entire human race would be far better off, maybe. But back in the days when folks had to use swords, clubs, and rocks to fight with, I am certain that there were STILL people being murdered. And probably at least as many per capita. Lets see your statistics on THAT one. Because that is the only statistic that would actually give any REAL answers.

The question of guns IS about morals. NOT about guns per se. Again I say, what happened to right and wrong. We are supposed to be a "civilized" society, as compared to the dark ages...

The whole issue of "if you take away guns, only criminals will have" them means absolutely nothing. I am considered a criminal because i like to smoke pot...

The police of todays world have FAR TOO MUCH POWER already, which they misuse horribly, and they are NOT TO BE TRUSTED in ANY fashion! I can not stress that enough! ANY business you throw their way supports their right to continue to do the horrible things they do. I have learned the hard way to NEVER get a police officer involved in anything, even if it is a matter of life and death.

So, even tho I DETEST guns AND killing, I firmly believe that humans NEED to be able to defend THEMSELVES from the nature of out of control and violent humans who DO exist and and WILL have guns.

And no amount of facts and figures will make that any different.

 

I'm not sure that your figures are correct DP. As for the Swiss figures I quoted, I didn't read them in an anti-gun journal, even though they were sourced from there.

I honestly think that this has been a large part of our misunderstanding across the big pond that separates us. We are shown different figures by each respective country in a way that suits each government.

A lot of people refuse to question facts and figures, but when we start thinking that way, then who or what do we trust for the truth any more? Some of us in here have been able to discuss these details with reasonable flexibility to account for the probability of lies, or warped truth. Others have found this debate frustrating and have resulted to flaming.

In a way though I can understand some of their frustration. Some people are convinced they can see the whole world from the monitor in their living room.

They are so convinced that they will defend that truth to the bitter end, refusing to see the lie.

Already, having logged on to the Protest page I see that some individuals has even acknowleged Seung-Hui Cho with a tribute in Wikipedia.

We are trying to assess the tragedy that is gripping America with antisocial people who abuse their 2nd ammendment, and putting pressure on the Constitution, while others are glorifying killers and turning them to celebrities.

We are fighting a losing battle, but it is up to each and every one of us to force the politicians to start accepting the responsibility that the taxpayer pays for.

What thrills me to death about this debate right now with Dirk Pitt and Seung-Hui Cho is that I have never known a person to write with an accent only talk with one so either Seung is a faker troll or a complete idiot. As for the topic I stand that when the US historically has pushed thru laws to take away guns all that it has done is made higher violent crime rates in those cities (Washington DC, New York ect). As for Virgina having relaxed gun laws well everyone needs to understand that the state does not decide to give a gun, all background checks are done at the federal level (FBI). So the feds allowed they man to have a gun not Virgina. When you purchase a firearm in the US there is paperwork and a called in background check (when done legally).

Im glad and alive today for being allowed to have my own means of protection. Killing another person is something most seem to believe they cant do and never should be done ect. Frankly untill your personally put in a situation that requires a decision of your families life or thiers, having to think what they might do to your family before they kill them, or worse what your family must live with for the rest of their life becuase of what was done to them, then you have no real opinion just an uninformed comment!

Now for a scary story. A few years ago when my kids were all still in elementary school, there was a BRILLIANT anti drug program they decided to use in the school system. They sent home sign-up sheets and everything. This was a "just say no to drugs, say yes to shooting" campaign apparently thought up by some dumb rednecks in the school system to appeal to everyone's sense of "good-old-boy/mighty hunter...
The idea was to give all the young-uns gun courses and get 'em shooting at "targets" rather than doing drugs.... Even the kids who had no interest in guns to begin with.
The REAL scary part was that I was apparently the ONLY parent who complained. Or so I was told. But I found it APPALLING! My kids are grown now, and they STILL have no interest in guns.
OK, Guns are necessary evil in an evil world, for use by pussies who don't have the guts or the ability to defend themselves with their hands, or people who are simply nuts and want to kill sumpthin'.
