From what I know, love beads are rainbowcoloured or in different colours put together in the order of the rainbow. But I could be wrong.
Love beads From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Love beads are one of the traditional accoutrements of hippies. They consist of one or more long strings of beads, frequently handmade, worn about the neck by both genders. The love bead trend probably evolved from the hippie fascination with non-Western cultures, such as that of India and Native America, which make common use of similar beads. Some believe that when ones string of love beads breaks, they are soon to fall in love.
a decent definition, there C. I remember beads made from rolled newspapers and magazines. I had a bead curtain made from them as well when I was younger.
I cannot describe beads...Well you just have a look at this resource....You will come to an idea.....swarovski crystals LOL
I have my mom's old love beads. They are just looong loops of beads. Mostly small beads, brightly colored, no particular order. They seem to be mostly glass seed beads and pony beads with some other things thrown in.
Do a google search. To be love beads have always been beads that you trade and share with people. A few years ago I was in Jamaica and bought some beads from a vendor. I can't recall what they were made of, some kind of painted seeds I guess. I gave them to a few friends of mine who I thought would like them. Sometimes I'll make bracelets or necklaces and trade them with friends so that we have "a piece of eachother" kind of. I like the theory about if they break you will fall in love. Never heared that before. But, I'm already in love so... does that count?
Maybe the theory isn't just meaning people maybe if one broke you would find something else you love like a new hobby or a pet or something.
In my experience love beads are just colorful random beads...in high school my friends and I used to get together with whatever beads we had lying around, and we would all throw them together in one giant bowl, and then sit around and talk and string long necklaces out of them...the necklaces would always turn out random, but very colorful, no two alike. We called them love beads because they were made with love, in very much a sharing sort of community fashion. We would trade necklaces and bracelets and it was always a lot of fun.
Thanks! I miss doing that nowadays too...I was thinking how awesome it would be to get together and do something like that again. If anyone is ever in Florence, Al and wants to get together and string some love beads, lemme know!
