howdy i thought i'd tell you all what i eat, and maybe you could tell ME where i'm going wrong, and what harm i may be doing to myself, etc... Yes sweetie, what is shandy? if it is some form of soda like I suspect, I would stop drinking it. If not, please explain. And yes I do have something to tell you about your diet. I can even help you start on a new path to eating healthier and incorporating all of the things that will provide your body with the nutrition it needs. Unfortunately, as fitness is my passion, I also have to work a real job to pay the bills until my gym is completed. It is 8 am and I'm quite late. When I get a free moment during the day I will come back to this thread and give the advice that I've got.
I work crazy hours at a nursing home, from either 8-16 hours a night. So most of my food is grab & go. Yogurt pre-made salads raw veggie sticks with dressing raw fruit or canned fruit from vending machine muffins popcorn chocolate milk flavored water lots of coffee Sometimes the kitchen help makes extra brownies and gives them out to all employees. On my days off (which is a rare thing) I'll eat scrambled eggs & toast & yogurt & banana for breakfast. But after eating that I'm to stuffed to eat any lunch.
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, we have been super busy here at work. Then I started to post but I had to go to a meeting (Weight Watchers, silly people not AA). Anyway, this is just my personal opinion, modify this for your particular situation, whether you are vegan or low carb person, whatever. First of all, don't drink alcohol for breakfast. That is what the Shandy is right, part beer part lemonade? That is what the food network said it was anyway. Breakfast: Have a piece of fruit, I don't care what kind. Or have a huge bowl of fresh fruit salad. No fruit cocktail does not count it contains too much sugar. Also have something like a cereal that is high in fiber. Too often we forget that we NEED fiber. And we don't get nearly enough. Almost every day I have a packet of instant cream of wheat cinnamon swirl flavor and usually a banana or cantelope. YUM! Then if you are hungry before lunch either have another piece of fruit or some cut up veggies like carrots or celery. No need for dressing. Then for lunch I usually have a lean cusine and a salad and more fruit and a pudding cup or some other low cal, low fat treat. Even a rice crispy treat is good. I also enjoy the fat free chips (used to be called WOW brand). Or I will have a sandwich made with light cheese (2% is fine) mustard, and any type of low fat lunchmeat that you like, I like smoked turkey or chicken. Sometimes I will have tuna (high in protien, low in fat) with Miracle Whip or MW light. All of course on wheat bread. I haven't had white bread in years. I never liked it anyway. Then I have a snack in the afternoon, usually fat free chips or pretzels (not too many) or applesauce or jello cups. They are good cause they are single serving and fun to eat! Then I have for dinner fish, boneless skinless chicken, veggie burgers, veggie chicken patties, veggie hot dogs, veggie crumbles with light spaghetti sauce or homemade and wheat pasta (Yummy, I'm getting hungry). We make all sorts of things that most people eat, we just put a healthier twist on them. I always have 2 servings of veggies at dinner, and I eat those first, that way if I am full, then I will have eaten the lower calorie/fat high nutrient content food first. I usually incorporate some sort of carb/starch, like a baked potato w/fat free spray margarine and spices on top, or wheat noodles with light parmasian cheese on them, or brown rice. The thing about carbs and starches is you definitely need to watch your portion size and you need to be careful of your toppings. Oh I almost forgot the most important, MILK! I don't like milk personally so I usually have yogurt or cottage cheese for a snack after dinner. But you need at least 2 servings of a dairy product a day. People might disagree, I have always been one of those people who feel that milk from cows is weird, but after having tried this method, I've lost a stubborn 15lbs that I hadn't been able to take off. So it does help in my opinion. Then for dessert I have healthy choice ice cream bar. I like them because they are single serving again, so after having one, I feel like I had a treat and I wouldn't have 2 or 3, but when getting ice cream out of the pint, that is hard because you want more than the serving size. I have other tips for chocolate and pizza as well, but I have to get back to work for a little while, so I will post later. I also have some other advice for you. Take care of yourself.
will changing my diet help with my anxiety? i sure am an anxious guy... anything to help with my skin? i've got spots from my nipples up, practically... i feel depressed all the time. will a diet change help? i can never sleep. yes, shandy is beer+lemonade thanks everyone.
LOL beer for breakfast, yes I remember those days. Hell I'm lucky if I drink 3 beers a weekend anymore. Just don't have the taste for it anymore. Anyway, yes modifying your diet and incorporating exercise into your daily routine will most certainly help your anxiety, depression, sleep habits, and your skin. Here are the tips I promised about wanting the not so good for you foods. Not sure exactly where you are from, but here we have Joe Corbi's Pizza kits, I love the whole wheat ones. If you can get or make whole wheat pizza crust that rocks. Make your own pizza, just buy the sauce(read labels some are better for you than others) and get some 2% cheese (shredded) and tons and tons of veggies. Go crazy with the veggies! I have that once every 2 weeks or so. No I don't eat the whole pizza alone either. 2 slices should do you good. Chocolate, I don't normally crave this unless I'm PMSing, but when I do crave it watch out! Chocolate milk is perfect for these cravings. Also, instead of having a whole candy bar I will have 2 of the bite sized things. I also try to find light/low fat alternatives. One thing that is actually not too bad for you is fudgsicles. Or my sister (the brownie queen) will make me some brownies using the low fat recipe that is on the box (it uses applesauce I do believe). Another thing I've noticed that people do, is they eat a whole lot at one sitting. I'm not sure why people do this, perhaps it is because that is what they have been taught (the old eat like a king at breakfast, prince at lunch and pauper at dinner thing) or if it is because we are so damn busy these days. Thing is you should have more than 3 meals a day. I don't care what the FDA says or anyone else. I have studied the human body, and I am human. You should eat when you are hungry. That is the problem, a lot of people have no idea when they are hungry they just eat when they are told they are supposed to. This is silly. Of course, if you begin to recognize when you are hungry then eat, your body might regulate itself and go on a natural schedule, but the idea that people should eat lunch at noon and dinner at 5 has no substance. On that note, while you should recognize when you are hungry and eat accordingly, you should also be able to recognize when you are full and therefore stop eating. Whether you end up with leftovers or not (my mother hated leftovers). This takes practice, but I believe everyone can do it. This is how we are taught to explain it to people. Think of a car. When you are going on a long trip, say from NY to FL. Would you 1) Fill up the entire car with gasoline so you could make it without ever having to stop? You would have to figure out where to put all of that gas, because the tank is only so big. 2) Wait until you get there to put gas in. or 3) Stop and fill up the tank as needed, in DE, VA, SC and GA? Hopefully you would opt to fill up as needed. Same goes for your body. You have to fill it up with fuel (being food) so that your body can make and use energy. So, to recap here are the basics: try to eat as much food that comes from nature as possible... doritos do not come from nature, eat at least 5 fruits/veggies each and every day, make sure you are getting ample fiber (25-35 grams!) 2 servings of dairy per day, drink at least 8, 8 oz glasses of water a day (I don't care what the new fad says, it is WRONG!) cut out extra sugars and alcohol as you see fit (You don't have to be perfect, just be more aware of what you are putting in because that is what you will put out!) Play with spices to add flavor to food instead of butter, sour cream, etc. Look for lower fat, lower calorie alternatives but don't forget portion size. Switch white grains for whole grains, try to bake food instead of fry it. Have a non healthy treat every now and again so you don't lose your mind! And don't forget to check out my forum Deadbear's Gym above for some super workout tips! Take care of yourselves!
