If you could legalize marijuana, but it meant prohibition of alcohol?

its cool how it is, sure weeds legal but you can still get it, and here you dont get busted for it so its all good although legalisation would be nice if it ment not being able to get pints at gigs and stuff pfffft

I would never do that. Marijuana has some great medical benefits and a few latent effects that I can't argue with, but alcohol is far too deeply rooted in my culture for it to be prohibited simply to make way for another mind-altering substance.

While this is a good point, I think it becomes a bit naive when you look at people who are pushing some serious weight. Sure there's never any violence when you go to your buddy's house and pick up an eighth, but what if you look at the people who grow weed as a cash crop and stand to gain or lose hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars with each deal. Although that type of violence doesn't effect the average pothead, it's still there. Even I know people who have been robbed at gunpoint picking up pounds and what not. I think it was Mark Emery who said that when you create a fake crime you still create real criminals.

What I was referring to when I said I'd rather buy weed from a dealer than alcohol was the safety issues that are associated with homemade booze. I don't know if there are any statistics available on the subject, but how many people died or went blind from drinking poorly made booze during alcohol prohibition. While there is some risk that your weed could be laced with something, I don't think the same thing can be said of marijuana prohibition. There's no doubt that marijuana prohibition is a disaster but it's not quite as bad as alcohol prohibition was.

Yes, because i would feel guilty keeping alcohol legal. I'd feel responsible for the death of many people. Not because I like pot better (even though I do)

Trust me, more people would die from alcohol poisoning if it were illegal.

Innocent people die all the time in car crashes that had nothing to do with any mind-altering substance. Do you also feel guilty every time you get behind the wheel? Trying to squeeze life - which entirely situational - into a one-size fits all scheme does not work.

my answer woulda been different 15 years ago. when weed was easier to get than booze, I would have been all for the switch. I currently prefer vodka to weed.

I notice, pretty much, that the majority of prohibit alcohol votes come from people it is already prohibited from (UNDERAGE)
