An article from sunfood.com: "Hemp seeds are considered by leading researchers and medical doctors to be one of the most nutritious food sources on the planet. Shelled hemp seed is packed with 33 percent pure digestible protein and is rich in iron and vitamin E as well as omega-3 and GLA. A recent report funded by the Canadian government states that hemp protein is comprised of 66 percent high-quality edistin protein, and that hemp seed contains the highest percentage of this of any plant source. Hemp also contains three times the vitamin E contained in flax. Because the human body produces no Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), it is important that EFAs be consumed on a regular basis. It is estimated that more than 90 percent of Americans take in too little of one of the most important EFAs--omega-3--which is found in flax, walnuts, and hemp seeds. EFAs are the "good fats" that doctors recommend as part of a healthy, balanced diet. Shelled hemp seed is comprised of 45% "good fats" in an ideal balance of Omega-3 Alpha-Linolenic Acid, Omega-6 Linoleic Acid, "Super" Omega-3 Stearidonic Acid, and "Super" Omega-6 Gamma Linolenic Acid. It is also rich in vitamin E and iron, and contains 33% protein. The quality of omega-3 is vital, and can be diminished by oxygen, heat, and light. Thus consume the freshest seeds possible and store them tightly sealed in a dark, cold environment such as a refrigerator. In the definitive book on good fats, Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill, author Udo Erasmus states, "The best-balanced source of EFAs is hemp seed oil." Here's the best deal I have found online for hemp products...I think nutiva is a great company to support since they give 1% of their profit to sustainable agrictulture and things like "VOTE HEMP", which is very important I believe. The owner of the company actually tryed to make growing hemp legal in California several years ago, because it would cut his costs a lot, since he ships them in from Canada, and he doesnt like to support gas companies by trucking the products in. Their a very responsible company. Here's the best deals I've found online for all nutiva products, much cheaper than what they cost at my health food store : 3 pack of Nutiva Hemp Seeds for 18.00 2 16oz bottles of hemp oil (Better than olive oil imo!) for 16.76 2 16 oz canisters of hemp protein powder for 18.00!
I like this raw hemp protein powder that has chocolate and cayenne in it. I can't remember the name. I used to be good and have it for breakfast every morning but I am ashamed to say I abandoned that for mochas.
WHoa, chocolate and cayenne are too of my favorite things, LOL. It could be nutiva, they have a chocolate hemp protein powder, does this look familiar? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GAO92E?ie=UTF8&tag=myspace0172-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000GAO92E Nutivas protein powder blends are one of the few things that arent raw I'll include in my smoothies....just cuz I know they are quality products. John Roulac is an incredibly conscious business owner and their quality really comes through when you use their products, plus it's like supporting a charity since they give a lot of their profit to social activism. Their coconut oil is amazing too, I have a 5 pound tub in my kitchen right now
