'Cannabis Gran' Remains Defiant

The woman known as Britain's "cannabis gran" explains why she eats marijuana five times a day - and why she'll keep on doing it despite the threat of a jail term.

She has just delivered a letter to Downing Street telling Tony Blair why she no longer trusts medicines prescribed on the NHS, having spent half the day travelling from near Hexham, Northumberland, to do so. This is not, however, your average hot chocolate. Mrs Tabram, 66, has added a quarter of a teaspoon of cannabis powder.

"This will keep me covered from pain for five hours now," she says as she takes another sip.

The old age pensioner began taking cannabis in February last year to combat intense pain in her neck and back, as well as other complaints such as tinnitus.

She says the drug had an almost immediate impact. "I had a walking stick, I was in constant pain. Now, through ingesting cannabis in my food five times a day, five times a week - minute amounts - I feel great."


I found this article (coincidentally) after trying to organise some for a friend of a friend who is dying of cancer. The medication that the doctor has given her won't stop the pain, and the cancer has spread into her bones. It is very sad...
But this is one cool granny on a mission!

 

Maybe now people will stop believing the crap that the DEA and other agencies (corporations) are saying about the love of my life... I wish she was my granma.

If you check out the link it is funny - she says, look, I don't care if they lock me up, I'll just get out and eat the stuff all over again, and they can lock me up again, and we'll keep doing it...she's one determined lady, and she's doing something to help others in similar situations to hers. It's also funny where she says the main drawback is problems with your short term memory, but at her age it ain't so great anyway!

 

How I admire her. And how true her claim. It will be the souls like hers that continue to show that MJ is a medicine and boon to mankind.

 

I bet she bakes some delicious cookies.

I know a few people that use it for pain as well as the high. It would leave her in a better mental state than the drugs they would legally prescribe for her too. Thats whats really messed up

 

You know what - some day they'll call it some scientific sounding name and they'll try to make it a prescription medication -at some phenomenal price, of course- for pain relief. Now THAT'S really messed up too.
The person I know with cancer can't sleep or eat without it. You're so right about the mental state - it would make them more peaceful and accepting about the ending of their life too

 

pot will probally never be entierly legal =( wanna know why? cuz they cant TAX it. haha well ill still be smokin! and i know you will too

LEGALIZE NATURE!

 

I see alot of misconceptions in this thread, so let me clear things up a bit:

1. I actually don't smoke cannabis (merely because I'm staying clean until I get a decent job).

2. Isolated THC (or tetra-hydra-cannibidol, the scientific name ) is already legally prescribed in the US for cancer patients (and yes, for a remarkably large profit.)

3. Cannabis COULD be taxed...moonshine isn't taxed, yet the government still regulates and taxes the sale of alcohol. I believe the reason for the longevity of Prohibition is due to the large amount of post-60's peace-loving Hippies growing pot, rather than rednecks with Thompsons (not that there's anything wrong with that).

It's very damn taxable! They tax the holy shit outta cigs and alcohol. And they have been selling pot that is grown specifically for cancer patients. I've been told by someone who was growing it legally for his ex that had cancer that the buzz was eh, but the munchies were insane! Theres also their lil marinol pill which doesn't nearly do the good of plain old pot

Man I'm sorry but I'd rather get the munchies like a mufucker and it be legal than be stoned outa my mind and get (insert proper # here) years jail time for having leftovers on me.
