Hi mates! I have a question for you. I've got a new job offer with my company that requires relocation to the Sydney area. I currently live in Philadelphia, PA (USA). I have plenty of contacts and helpful people from my company, but my girlfriend is coming with me and she is really confused about where to start. She's 21 years old and has a high school diploma. She'd like to go to school to become a registered nurse. I'm pretty sure she'll be allowed to reside in Australia with a student visa, but I think she needs to get into a school before she can get the visa. Do you know of any schools in the Sydney area (I think we'll be living in a place called Parramatta) that might be a good place for her to inquire? Here in the states, she is ready to start at a 2 year community college, so we'd like to find an equivalent. She has very little money, so we're looking for an inexpensive school that's not terribly difficult to get into. Thanks in advance for you help. We're so excited. Even though I'm taking a pay cut, I felt like I won the lottery by getting this job. I've been lurking on this board for a little while trying to learn a little more about Australia and I was happy to see the new thread about the Confest. It's good to know that there are dirty hippies in Australia! I'm just sad I won't be there in time to make it to that festival.
Congrats on the new job!! I'm sure you'll have a great time down here. And don't be bummed about missing confest, there's a couple each year. as to your enquiries, try the nsw TAFE site: http://www.tafensw.edu.au/ TAFE is basically our version of a community college. G'luck!!!
There should be a Confest at New year as well. To train to be a nurse I would say that it would be necessary to get Australian Citizenship first.
Hey...welcome down-under (hmmm, always wanted to say that!) I work in Parramatta, and the University of Western Sydney has a Parramatta Campus and they do teach Nursing Courses (I was studying naturopathy there and in one of our classes we sat in with all the nursing students). Good luck with everything... Blessings of Love, Peace, Freedom and Bliss, Goddess Om
