So while doing my usual weekly volunteering in my oldest son's 1st grade class on Wednesday, his teacher asked to speak with me out in the hallway. She said that she had to move my son's seat in class because he kept acting silly and talking when it's inappropriate. So okay, I talked with him about it, I know he's Mr. Comedian at home, but I told him he needed to curb the silliness during school. Thought I had handled the situation.

Well today he comes home from school and I get a note from his teacher asking if I had spoke to him regarding the being silly and talking too much, as she hasn't noticed any improvement yet. She said she asked him if I had talked to him about it, and he said he didn't remember. Shows how much he was listening to our little conversation.

I can't wait until school is out for the year, 5 more weeks to go.

Any class clowns here? I never was, well, I was super talkative and got in trouble for that quite a bit. ;) I got excellent grades in school despite my chatty nature, as does my son, in fact, he's been ahead in a lot of his subjects, so...honestly, I think he's just bored, it's the end of the year, the weather is beautiful, and he's stuck in a classroom. I just hope he can cool it here, I told him I better not get any more "silliness" reports.

i was a bit of a class clown...pulled pranks on teachers and such. elementary school we would hide in the coat locker when a sub was in and jump out and scare them haha...high school...well, one of the funnier ones was putting condoms with lotion in them all over, on the door handles (to get in and out of the room), on the teachers desk, chalk board, on teachers computer, in teachers desk....that was funny.

My oldest had gotten the reputation for be a social butterfly when she was in K and first grade. The teachers had talked to me about it quite a few times I did my best to explain to her that recess was the time for her to be talking to her friends and that it was extremely important for her to be quiet and listen to the teacher during class. She always was/has really good grades though so I guess her main problem was not being stimulated enough. Right now she is in fourth grade level math and reading and she is only in second grade. Have you thought about your son maybe being bored or not satisfied with the levels they are teaching him?
    just a suggestion... :)

I was usually the one to laugh at the class clown, not with him.

Class clowns tend to have a rather terrible sense of humour.

I would usually just say something witty once in a while to shut the class clowns (yes, many of them... stupid spoiled rich kids) up and let the teacher do the teaching.

yeah, i remember we had a sub for like 4 months because our regular teacher was on her maternity league, one day me and my friend put a fart maker in a hidden spot under the teachers desk, and every like 10 minutes we would set it off, he was like 60 or something, and he was talking the whole class so when it went off, we just laughed our asses off, and he never noticied what we were laughing at, the whole class was laughing by the end of class, i also ripped on my teachers sophmore and senior year because i had them again...i was in detention and what not a lot...my parents were on speed dial on my administrator's phone

I think you might have hit the nail on the head there Jaime. His teacher told me that he is several grade levels ahead in certain subjects, particularly reading and math.

I asked him a little while ago why he keeps being silly and he says "because the other kids are making me laugh!" *sighs* I spoke with my husband when he got home from work, showed him the letter, and he gave him a lecture and "grounded" him until we see further improvement in his behavior. I back him up on it, but man, it hurts my heart. Little guy started crying, sobbing actually, and it nearly brought me to tears. I told him that we love him, that we're not mad at him, but he needs to make sure he behaves at school. I said "you know we love you right?" to which he said yes, he knew that. But it's so hard sometimes to have to get on his case, dang!

So you younger ones here, don't think that we parents enjoy being the bad guys! ;)

I know a guy who was a class clown (he is out of school know) and he can spit silently. He calls it the spiting cobra. He would spit at the kids around him to make them think the roof was leaking somehow. Sometimes he was sucsesful at disturbing the whole class.

Is the roof leaking? I don't know. I felt it to! What is that!?

all the clowns i knew were typically extremely bright and extremely bored. i don't know about the ones pavel went to school with. now, there were those "popular" guys who THOUGHT they were being funny but were really just being assholes. that's different. but the clowns, now, those were some smart fuckers. and usually they were happy to see just about anyone, didn't have any sort of social level expectations for their friends.

I'm usually the talk it out one, and the times that I do have to dish out punishments, I always tell the kids that it's harder on me than it is on them. ;)

He (my oldest) just came in from outside and brought me a handful of wildflowers that he had picked, told me he really loves me. Melted my heart. Awww.

Ky is one very smart kid. The papers he brings home from school are almost always 100% papers, no mistakes. He works dang hard, and he's always been one to catch on easily. The twins, now, don't get me wrong, they're smart little cookies, but not near where Ky was at their age.

one of the cutest most annoyingly frustrating things my son does is just after I give em a good talking to he'll tell me how much he loves me (usually by holding his fingers together and saying mom I love you this much.... on the outside) makes me feel ten different types of bad... but I try not to show it ;)

Sometimes being the class clown can be beneficial, because it can help in the development of his powers of observation [IMG]

Awww, talk about making you feel even worse!

Yeah, that's the hard part. I'm like an open book. ;) I need to work on that.

I was asleep through a third of my high school classes, and during elementary school i had a bad case of gas, and phlegm, so i was the class farting and spitting machine.

i got over the gas and the phlegm, but its still a bad habit

my wife tries to pull that kind of crap. it only makes me madder and holler louder. because all dishonesty does. and when it's used to try and chainge the subject from thoughtlessness and the real world consiquences of it, well that's just as evily dishonest as the act of premeditated thoughtlessness itself.

because thoughtlessness, when it is added togather collectively as it does, is at the real root of all the conditions that cause suffering and harm.

I'm probably misunderstanding what you are saying but if you're saying that when you yell at your wife and she responds with love and that makes you madder.. um.. that's not nice

The twins always say "I sowwy, I love you mama" with their big eyes sooo serious. Gets me every time.

My oldest will usually bring me flowers from outside or draw me pictures and make cards that say things like "I love you mommy, you're the best mommy in the world" Damn, cuts like a knife.

I'm not a class clown at all---I basically never talk...but when I have to, people always laugh (with me, not at me), so I guess I'm humorous enough.
