It seems to me like its a mini form of the government, for kids, so when they get to the real world, they are already brainwashed.
good point, but if theres one expresion i abosolutely hate in school, it's "the real world". How much more real is it gonna get? but ya, school brainwashes us to agree to integrate into society.
Its the stupid rules, that make no sense. Putting caps on freedom, freedom that no longer exists as it is anyway.
You have the freedom to agree. You have the right to express your opinions as you see fit, so long as your opinions do not conflict with those of the state.
As soon as you express your unbrainwashed ideas about goverment or life, they call you depressed and poisen your mind with drugs.
I agree in general theme, but I have to quibble on the details. For one, people aren't really put on drugs for stating opinions. It's more for accepting a different reality than the one they're supposed to. Kids with ADD, for example. ADD is bullshit speak for "doesn't want to sit still when we tell them". So, they get to take Ritalin, which with any luck will fuck them up for the rest of their life. Just one example of many.
Nalencer you made some good points, but what happens when you disagree with what your supposed to be agreeing with, with the stuff you learn in school. You end up in jail or like brainstew said, on drugs that the doctors give you because they have labeled you. Some free country. If someone actually speaks their mind to a cop or some other person or puts up signs and stuff, they will most likely end up arrested. I doubt this is what a "free" country is. Also freedom of speech is total bullshit.
Like I said, people aren't really put in jail for stating opinions, putting up signs, etc. It's coming, certainly, but it's not yet here, except in a few rare cases.
The general idea of schooling and HIGHER education is to develop a system that keeps the majority of people living outside of their own total control and freedoms to ensure that when they are completely on their own, they won't do something stupid and fuck it all up. There have been similar institutions for a long time. Whether it be the military, aprenticing, or school. Course, schools try to impart some knowledge as well, but the reason everything is so structured instead of more open is to have a contained environment. It could be any system really, anything to make sure we don't have TONS of 18 year olds cruising around of their own free will and occord. Of course, its kind of fruitless...
schooling prepares you for slave labour i love this quote by Tom Morello "America touts itself as the land of the free, but the number one freedom that you and I have is the freedom to enter into a subservient role in the workplace. Once you exercise this freedom you've lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn't belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don't care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve" its really true and school prepares you to be a "productive" member of american "society". total bullshit. but id rather not starve and unfourtunately i have to go to school
When are people gonna learn that the best way to fight the man is to play by his rules until you gain an audience? The only way to do that is to go to school. But you go ahead and drop out... that'll teach em. The only way dropping out would do anything is if enough people did it so that there wouldn't be enough qualified workers to field a sufficient work force. And of course that would have a lovely effect on all of your standards of living.
No strategies about it. Just do what you want to do. If you want to drop out, do it. People may follow your lead or they may not, but in the end, what's important is that you did what you wanted and didn't give in to what others wanted you to do.
^ This is also known as taking the easy way out. Dropping out merely treats the symptoms of a poor education system while completely ignoring the underlying causes. So while you get to forget about high school and begin your promising career at McDonalds, generations of kids get to suffer through the same bullshit. If that's honorable, then I don't know what lazy, pathetic, and selfish are.
