I dont know where I want to go to college. I can either go to a school about 30 minutes away from here. The benefits of this are: - Live away from home while still being able to go back and visit my family whenever I want. - I have a friend that already goes there. - I can still take lessons with my flute teacher (I really love the guy). OR I can go to a school about 6 hours away. - Have real independence because I won't be able to visit my family whenever I want. - Everyone I meet will be new, so that's a little exciting. - The music program is better. (I play the flute, BUT I dont know if i want to be a music major so the music program doesnt have to be top-notch). - I visited the campus and everyone seemed nice. What do you think?
I would go to the farther away school. It sounds like it could offer you more in the department you are somewhat interested in. And learning under somebody knew can be a awesome experience. Not only that but, you'll meet some awesome new friends. Not saying you wouldn't at the other school, but since you already have a friend going there and probably friends close to you, you may not put forth so much of an effort. Also, family is great but 30 minutes can be too close for comfort. 6 hours isn't that far away...and that way mom wont be stopping in unannounced often either.
I have a bias on the topic but I'm going to let you know what I think. I would opt for the larger distance between you and home. I am commuting to a school about 20 minutes form my house and it's horrible. I know half the kids i run into, and I still live with mom. In the fall I am transfering to a school about 3 hours from here and I am very exited for the change. I went to the college closer to home for financial purposes. However, my step dad just got promoted to VP of his company and the family now has extra cash flow. Since the extra cash is coming in we will need fewer loans and the college of choice is now affordable. Of course the decision is entirly up to you. Some people, like myself, are exited to move away from the nest; whereas some people get home sick and are not socially capapble of jumping into the sea of all new people. Good luck. Party hard; party smart.
If you go to the school 30 mins from your house make sure there won't be unexpected visits from your folks. I go to school about an hour from home and I mad sure of that the first day.
