Personally I don't like cover bands. I love a cover songs hear and there but I would much rather spend the money seeing a band doing their own thing.
well I miss the dead, not just the band but the magic and and people, and a lot of that shows up to DSO shows. its not the same, but nothing ever will be.
just my two cents but ive seen dso a handful of times and always had a good time but the comment about the crowds being kind of talky is definatly true.. havent checked out the schwag yet but soon
True. I saw them at Innsbrook, in Richmond, a couple weeks back. They did the civic center set from '78 (Pittsburgh)... kinda obscure, but an awesome choice. They blew my face off, man. It all depends on the set... and of course, the dead have some pretty horrendous sets, at times. It's all good, though. There's nothing like that warm feeling you get, you know? It's like heroin or something.
I think I popped the difference in the crowd. DSO gets the Ratdog crowd; the T-shirts tucked in type with an affinity for a LOT of beer. So if you go knowing it's a Bobby crowd, you'll roll and have a great time. If you are more of an eclectic jam head, it's strange.
Yeah, you do have a point there... But I like it from time to time. Never been one for getting beered up or anything.. okay, well maybe by campfires every now and then (though, I'm the caliber of wino that would terrify August West, himself), but who doesn't do that. It is a lively and talkative crowd that drinks more than they can usually handle... I'm somewhere in between Keller and Kimock, as far as my favorite fanbase goes. I never can really pick. Though, Keller has always had a pretty talkative crowd, too, but that's pretty much a given, I guess.
My first Keller show was the night Frank Sinatra died (also first cheese show) and the bigger Keller head in the crowd yakked the WHOLE freaking set! oh, and called for portapotty, then talked thru it. Turns out he had a deck on the soundboard, so he could hear the show whenever, later. I'm sure you heard about Steve and STFU in Denver. I thought the crowd deserved it more than Steve being a prima donna, myself, but that put folks off Kimock for years.
Actually, the more I see of that, the more it can wake me up if it's getting late.. so it can be enjoyable, to a point. That's mostly why I enjoy those sorts of shows. Though, the whole hit lewis black in the head with a water bottle deal during the gov't mule set, at roo, was just ridiculous.
I found this comment derogetory and elitist. I've seen ratdog and dso meny times and have yet to see what you're refering to. Every time I go all I see is a lot of heads happy to be there and having a great time. I am a big bobby fan and I don't tuck in my shirt or drink beer.
Id say this reaaaaaaly depends on the show they are playing first two times i saw them, I left before the encores, which is something I never do. They seemed like they just wokeup from a nap and played in a half-daze. Third time, on friday night, they rocked the house down like nothin else. Beat PAF or Ratdog. They sounded so smooth and so soulful at times. Their dynamics were great and GREAT shakedown and fuckin soullfulllll comes a time, solo was just unbelievable. I only caught the second set of it but it was one of the best shows ive ever seen. Im goin to see em at Nokia theatre of friday and saturday cause i was that impressed.
I used to catch the Schwag @ Cicero's all the time when I lived in St Louis. However, I stayed away from them this weekend in Denver, because I learned eric eisen joined the band. I had heard that he had taken them downhill. I also don't like eisen because of some of his attitude he pulled with the help phriendly band when things were looking really good. everyone should check out another stl based dead tribute band, Jake's Leg. www.jakesleg.com
Their good, sometimes they go back in history and play an old dead show. Their is a cool scene their, good acid and bud and stuff.
im going to see the DSO in febuary at the pagent has anyone been there for a dso or any kind of concert
