So many people tell me how amazing they are and so forth and so on, and I have all their albums...
But I can't see them as anywhere past 'pretty good'.
8 minute tracks composed principally of silence, birds chirping, and the rare disjointed musical note don't constitute artistic brilliance in my mind. If I want to go for that style of sound, I'll stick with Godspeed You Black Emperor.

Granted, some of the tracks are something you could define as a 'song' and in those cases, they're alright...but there's a fine line between a brilliant, misunderstood artist breaching the lines of popular music...and an experimental pseudo-rock band milking a niche market for everything it's worth.

    yeah , I'm a fan
If I had to pick a favourite cd I would say ''Frances the Mute"
although ''De-loused '' is pretty good

At the Drive-In was a much better band than either Mars Volta or Sparta. I wish they had just stayed together. Sigh.

I agree with you to some extent except the first album De-Loused in the Comatorium was an absolutly amazing album and for this alone they will remain 1 of the best rock artists of all time. Far better than sparta and at the drive in.
