lol I want dreads sooooooo much but I'm afraid that I'll want to get rid of them within a month. I got a few solutions for that though but I'm not sure if the second one will work. 1.leave chunks in front that aren't dreaded, brush em and whatever just like normal hair. 2.let dreads happen naturally, skip showers, let it loose when i go to bed and twist every morning. I like the let it happen naturally thing because that seems like it would be the easiest to undo in a month or two if i decided dreads weren't my thing. Would this work? I have very long, medium thickness, straight as a bored hair, but it tangles very easily. Also, how do i keep the twists? When i go to bed, what should i do with my hair to keep it from turning into one huge dreadlock? sorry if the answers are already here im lazy oh one more thing, how would chlorine effect dreads? would it make it less easy for chlorine to get trapped in them if my dreads where more narrow and i washed them after swimming?
I really want to get dreads, and i think i will really love them and right now i don't just want to have them for a month, what i'm saying is, my hair is pretty right now and I'm afraid after a couple months ill freak out and want to brush them out.
I agree with Goatboy... If you're that hesitant about it, then they probably aren't something you want to get in to. You need to make a commitment to them, really. They're not just a change of hairstyle, but of lifestyle too.
kinda think thats a silly solution, the front would be lomnger then back & ya tend to have a few loose hairs in the front from runnin fingers thru or whagever anyway.. ya dont gotta skip showers just wash em weekly.. twistin in the morns are up to u.. depends on your hair u might have pretty tight dreads oin months that wont like being brushed out..& u might loose alot ok u dont gotta keep the twists u dont gotta twist at all, just constantly go through your hair feeling each clump & seperating 1 clump crom another each clump will in time tighten to a dread, just want to malke sure they dont become 1 huge clump (not that theres anything wrong with that if u do let it happen) chlorine may dry & bl;each dreads like any hair ..thinner dreads do rince easier..but chlorione shouldnt cling to dreads its water soluable & should rince rioght out
what i have done which i have found very cool to do is..... i got my friend to braid my hair, which i loved from the instant she finished. then i wore it like that for a month or so, then one by one i have back combed them into dreads. if you arent sure if you will like dreads after a month or so, perhaps try that? braids dont look exactly like dreads but its kinda similar to look at, but much easier to comb out in a months time. then if you still like it after a month, back comb them in or undo the whole lot and go for natural!
Thats a good idea except my hair tends to grow quit fast and I have braided little peices before and knotted the ends and left them in for several months and i ended up with mini dreads about 4 to 6" long to comb out
yea i really really want dreads too! my parents wont let me but im pushing. for the past couple of months ive been not brishinf my hair and tying it up after i wash it in the shower (that somehow seens to knot it) and in the morning i dont brush it. by about 3 days i have about 4 semi dreads in my hair. then my parents see and make me brush em out. this has been going on for weeks and weeks now. but yea i have probably the same type of hair as you judging from your description. just let them go.. youll love them i guarantee! just make sure to seperate them from the top not bottom. goodluck! peace and love xxxx
sam- i think you should get dreads, only if your ready for the commitment. and if your 100% sure that you want them. it took me about a year to get to the point of where i said 'ok I'm finally ready, lets do this' on and off for that year i would go a few weeks wanting dreads, but then I would be like ' i like my hair though' and id go back to not being sure if i wanted them. so id say , just wait until the time seems right. if dreads are right for you you will feel it in your heart. plus you can always live vicariously through me until you figure out if dreads are right for you
i think you should get them. at the same time i was begging my mom to let me get them, i was being hesitant about getting them. but i had all my freidns saying "do it" and a few friends who used to have dreads said i would love them. so i just went for it. and i love my hair more than ever now. it really is an aweosme feeling to have dreads. i say go for it.
