My one year old doesn't like having his diaper changed. Its not so bad with a pee diaper but its horrible when I change crappy diapers. He tries to roll away, crawl away, he has no patience for this! I've tried everything, toys, distractions, talking, singing, fast diaper changes.... everything... any advice for the mom with a squirmy baby? I have 5 other kids and I've never encountered this problem before. I was able to use the distractions! thanks so much!
My godson hated having his diaper changed. Now that he's older, well... he still isn't a fan (sorry:& ). A couple things his mom started doing that helped were putting his pants on her head while she changed him (just strange enough to distract him) and blowing cool air towards his bottom ( again, I think it's the distraction thing). Of course, there are times when neither of them works, and in those cases it's one hand on the tummy and get it done as fast as possible. Also, he loves little einsteins, so she bought one video that she only puts on during diaper changes, and she just lays him down right in front of the TV. I know you said distractions don't work, but I just thought I'd put these out there. It was very new to me when I started taking care of him. My niece, who I'd cared for just before that, loved diaper changes. Just goes to show that they're all different. I hope these help! If not, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that potty training comes soon!!!
My son did that too. I could diaper him "on the run" if he was just wet, but those messy diapers were a bear to try to change! I tried absolutely everything that everyone suggested, and I only ever found one trick that worked. I would snatch him as he ran by, and we'd "wrestle" while I tickled him. Then I'd get him onto his back, and swing one leg up & over his chest. I wasn't squishing him at all... but he couldn't escape either. He thought it was a game, and I could hang onto him hands-free long enough to get him cleaned up. love, mom
thanks so much for all of the advice! Silly distractions might work cause he likes silly things! And making games of it might work too! I'll try everything!!! Thanks again!!
i have the same probalem with my son. sometimes he's in the mood where he likes to help so i can get him to grab his legs while i do it. He's the helping kind of kid even though he somehow never hears the word "no". He likes to follow directions. if he likes to talk on the phone try giving him the phone and pretending some one is on it. My phone can play the answering machine so i'll make it play so he can hear it through the phone like there's actually some one on there. Best wishes!!
Mudflower! Thanks for the really good advice! My son loves talking and listening to the phone! I'm gonna try that one tonite! Thanks!
