First of all the Rolling Stones are so Old they could tell you about the great depression and second of all if you knew the first thing about rap, u would know that some songs are real deep and have meanings in he lyrics, then there are other with no point, just written for entertainment purposes.

they always got something to say when a minority does something big.......

if rap isnt for you....dont listen to it.....and please dont come to the hip hop forum and preach your "better music" bullshit.....because your music isnt better.....

i LOVE hip hop........i love it to death.........and i strongly doubt a guy crying about his dog on a track would change my mind

anyways....rap came from ghettoes......ghettoes came from percecution.....that came from the civil rights movement, as it wasnt inferiority any more......and i think we all know were the civil rights movement came from eh......?

as the government dosnt seem to be pushing black people into one spot (particularly the spots that have liquor and gun stores on every block) any more.....rap is transforming and will keep transforming and spawning new and better ideas.....(dark skin just happens to be the prodominant aspect of modern rappers....not saying all rappers have to be black)

    ideas not based on percecution

youd think everyone had heard "2pac- changes" by now.......

    but i guess not......

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that they aren't amazing musicians...age has nothing to do with anything

And if you knew anything about music, you'd know that the Rolling Stones are the greatest band fucking alive, yet you decided to be ignorant and use their age as determining their talent. Just like if 2Pac lived to be 60, and he was still rapping. Would his age have a factor on his talent? I truly doubt it.

haha..yeah, right..Listen to A Bigger Bang, and tell me that they're done. That album is better than any rap album or rock album released in the past 5 years, and I say that with firm belief. And if you still don't dig, I went to see the Stones in Halifax in September and it didn't look to me like they were done, they were just as awesome and energetic as I heard they were in the 70's.

I like it beacause of the beats and the and the fun vibe it gives but yeah i also like it because the lyrics arent all about love or breakups or darkness thats the subject of most songs these days.

As an American black woman and a fan of hip hop I must say I do not like all rap. Rap and hip hop are two different things really. Hip Hop is a culture which has been exploited and ripped off by American mainstream culture (clothing, language etc etc etc) and is clearly misunderstood. Most of the 'you go girls' and the fist hand shake came from this culture. Hey, but that type of "borrowing" is not new. Hip Hop was created to express the culture of and offer a creative outlet for black/latino urban youth in the late 70's. And frankly some of them are fucking brilliant how they interpret the English language and string words together. That is art. Alright? And I have to share Rap has been a part of black american culture since the early 1900's beginning with the Jazz Renaissance. It is not new. Modern Rap has undergone many evolutions since the early 80's and it didn't start out gangsta, but in respect to the gangsta rappers, some are in fact, genuine artists who are expressing themselves. Like it or not and unpleasant as it may be to someone who has not had the pleasure of encountering and experiencing a true "hood" in the United States of America which is highly depressing, demoralizing and ripe with 24/7 violence -- how they express themselves with expletives and other unsocialized language is just representative of the harsh reality of their existence. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. I don't. I personally do not relate to the misogynistic emphasis applied to women, black women in particular, and glorfiying violence because I grew up middle class. Some of the videos are highly exploitive pf women, but that is another topic. But I give them credit for speaking their minds even if I don't agree with their message. My parents raised me to be strong and helped me know who I am, so their words don't have an impact on me and again I don't listen to it. There is a lot of violence in the media, not just Gangsta Rap. I tend to ignore that too. It's okay to glorify Spiderman III, that's cool. It's just a violent cartoon character. Yeah I get it. I've have to add also that some of the 'gangsta rappers' are just posing and grew up in the same priviledged neighborhoods as myself. lol. I'm not referring to them above, as they're just out to make a dollar.

Another thing is hip hop culture (which includes rap) is huge in Japan, China, Germany and a number of other countries all of which I've resided. As evidence that it is in fact a culture and believe it or not non-US folks and even people who are not various shades of brown understand the true nature of the culture. Which is pretty much preaching freedom of expression. That should appeal to the authentic hipsters here.

For the person above who asked for a rap group to check out (probably with a sprinkling of sarcasm) -- there are a number of highly intelligent rappers and groups out there who offer a positive, strong message. Old school, A Tribe Called Quest, is one in particular that comes to mind. I'd recommend any of their stuff from '89-95.

Try The Love Movement cd for starters.

    Peace.

    expression, expression, expression!!!
everyone has a right to express themselves, even if someone else thinks what they are expressing is not neccesarily "kosher." Isn't that what muzik is about

    Why is rap good?
    I'll tell you why:
I don't claim to like it for any soulful or sentimental reason. I like it because it sounds cool. Back in the day the rappers didn't give a fuck about what anyone thought about them. They just got up on the mike & said what they had to say regaurdless of the media, censors, all the other fags out there. And I respect that. It's differnet now of course, All that's left mostly is this awful Pop-rap & R&B shit.
