For me, it's the idea of finding a quiet place in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but beautiful nature. In recent years, however, I've realised that you can just as easily find places like that in central Europe. I wouldn't mind living here for example (Bohinj, Slovenia):

Now, all you need to make this place perfect is a nice broadband connection... :D

He's back on the forum! :)

Maybe our situations are similar at that point, Shadowplay? (because we're getting older, maybe?)
Have you also had enough of the city, but still (emotional as well as practical) dependent of the city, like me?

Yeah, I think that's how it is. It's kind of ironic; I just moved to a new flat a little closer to the city (10 mins to the centre by subway) and love to have this quick access to everything, while at the same time I can't stand the crowds and the traffic and take every chance I get to escape the city life. Your idea of getting a cottage somewhere in the north doesn't sound bad at all, but I think it would be difficult to get used to certain aspects of that way of life after all. Perhaps in a few years I'll be ready. :)

    peace,
    -Pat

I don't know, New Zealand or Canada sounds good - I've never been there though, so I can't really say.

I'm mostly attracted to Scandinavian countries and England. Because of the culture and nature I'd choose for (North) England i think.

Well, this debate touches all that I really think Nietzsche was thinking about.
Like most geniuses he was accused for heresy, in his case maybe because his sister was a fascist who established an german aryan colony in the Amazon.
But Nietzsche was not his sister. His sister interpreted what he wrote, according to her own nazi-ideology, and gave the writings to Hitler.

What Nietzsche really ment, had nothing to do with extreme social-darwinism. All Nietzsche ment about the term "Übermensch", was a description of the humans who don't eat all the shit about that they're dependent of the socalled "civilization".
What he descripe is persons who are able to keep their humanity, when you place them in the desert. An "Übermensch" according to Nietzsche is a person that is wise enough how important the social element or a community is. Therefore s/he don't fear to make a living in a desert, as long s/he has becomed aware of his/her own mortality and smallness compared to the social unity of the commune and nature in general.
An Übermensch can't possible be a fascist, racist or uniformed militarist in Nietzsches true opinion! Fascists, racists and militarists are weak persons, because they focus so much on skincolor (+ other indifferences) to make themselves feel better. In Nietzsches opinion such spiteful people don't deserve to be categorized as "ûbermensch"!!!

I'm not such an "Übermensch" yet. I'm still just a little shit, having his dreams about living in a deserted place, such as north Scandinavia (or in the Moomin-valley) !!

    love and understanding,
    noose.

p.s. good to see ya back, Shadowplay! :)
p.p.s. Well, I'm not that spontaneous as well. If I realize an idea in 2004, I must have developed that idea before the birth of Jesus Christ. ;)

Yep, the idea of the superman was totally misunderstood, or just used on their own evil way, by nazis. But a fast reading makes you understand the idea. A superman is that person who really reachs to know what is freedom, and what is s/he able to do. S/He is a powerful person (as wolf said), S/He continues being okay inside the social mass but don't really need anybody to feel good. In my opinion this should be a goal in every person life.

Meanwhile, we'll continue trying, learning and walking this strange path.

Freedom is the lost of all hopes.

None of us two (and most other clever persons) are heroes. Only weak people believe in heroes (and Santa Claus). That's the fundamental distinction. Nietzsche once asked something like: "why are they running after ghosts?". He was the first existentialist.
If you met me irl, I would propably appear to you as the weakest and most fragile person, you can imagine / you have ever met.

...and each of us members of human race will always be at one particular bank of the river. Will a bridge be built soon? If not, let's build it.

p.s. good to see your similar view on Nietzsches philosophy, migle. I'm not that much a lunatic then? :D

p.s. If I ever realize my dream, you are welcome to visit me / settle down, Shadowplay. :)
In my case it's not before 2-3 years as well! :)
But if our government become reelected next year, I'll definately move to Sweden in exile very soon after!!! :D

    love,
    noose.

yes, you are a lunatic but you're not alone hehehe.

As Oscar Wilde said: "All of us live in the sewers but some of us look at the stars".

PS: Is "sewers" the right word? Pffff my fucking English will never improve.

For a month ago or something like that, I was told that Oscar Wilde is bigger than Jim Morrison (in another thread at euro-forum). I actually think she was right at her point (I have realized). :)
    Yes, it's "sewers"! :)

Well, I don't know if Oscar Wilde was bigger than Jimbo, because I don't know as much from O. Wilde as from Jimbo, but anyway, Wilde was another free mind in a world that never tried to understand him and his ending was very sad as well, but as Jimbo, he left his literature, his thoughts and his soul.

Yeah man. You're absolutely right. I don't know much about Oscar Wilde, but more about Jimbo. -And I've never ever proclaimed that I know anything about Oscar Wilde!!! :D

...but I'm sure that "sewer" is almost the same word as "gutter"! (isn't it?) :)
