what is the least amount of lumens or light that you can give a male in order for it to produce pollen. Thankyou
Do you want it to produce good viable pollen, or just "barely alive" pollen? The reproductive system of any organism is directly linked to it's overall health and vigor - therefore the offspring's "quality" will depend on the condition of the parents (to some degree). Females that are "starved" for light produce little or no bud. Males that are "starved" for light produce little or no pollen. I can't really answer your question because I don't know - I don't think in terms of "minimum", I try to think in terms of "optimum"!
i run 3 600w hps and 1 400w mh and 1 250w 6400k cfl, the hps and the mh arent really an option due to their location, but the 250w cfl i can put into any position i like so i was hoping that would be enough light to get good enough pollen to be able to produce decent offspring.
yeah that 250W CFL should do the trick for 1-2 male plants. Really only need 1 male tho as each male produces much pollen and most of it is viable. Id say go for it with the 250W, should work. - 42o -
I'm sorry Grenola! I misinterperated your original question. If you're doing a breeding set-up, you can keep the males growing the same way that mother plants are kept growing to produce clones. You might want to check this out: http://www.cannabase.com/cl/pages/mums/mums.html The males and females don't have to be kept small (Bonsai), but it takes a lot less space - and equiptment!
Well i have about 9 different strains growing, so i wanted to get a good mix of crosses. I was planning on covering the female with a large black plastic sack and making a small hole and pulling one branch through, turning off all the fans and then just painting on the pollen. Someone told me that a decent branch could be good for 100 seeds + How long can pollen be kept for? Oh sorry and one last question. Is there any way of telling pheonotypes by checking the plants, or is it just based on what information you get from the seedbanks?
