Its ok, you can tell a 15 year old wrote it but I enjoyed reading the first and second. What did you guys think? Do NOT see the movie, if youve read the books and see it. its an hour and 30 min of torture!
Really? I was really looking fwd to watching the movie... But the book, I read it couse I got it as a gift from a friend who has read it already, so I would know how to discuss about it. But I honestly hated it, maybe just not my type of stories
The book was good. If I hadn't read the book, I would have liked the movie. But I did read the book and now I have to get the movie on DVD...just so I can listen to Chris's commentary. I can hear it now--"Wait! Where is Saphira going? Is she blowing up? Oh!...I'm pretty sure I didn't write that..."
I personally feel that the movie wasn't bad from a spectators point of view. That is, if you can manage to forget that the movie was based on a book... I read the books first, naturally. And I absolutely love them. I don't think that it reads as if a fifteen year old wrote it. Seriously, this was Paolini's first book! Terry Brooks first book came out when he was 18, and sure, some of the place names (Skull Kingdom) are a little kiddish. Even so, his first novel remains one of the best stories ever written. The thing you really need to remember is that, in writing as in art or music, your style developes over time, and even by the end of "Eragon" you could see a massive evolution in style by the end. "Eldest" also shows the traits of an evolving writer, which, in truth, is what every writer should strive to remain. Never stop learning, ya know? As it stands, I'm very impatiently waiting for the next installment to this trilogy. (And I really don't think he'll be able to stop with just the three books - no writer I've ever come across was able to stop once they grew to love their writings...) Now please excuese me while I cry about the fact that the third still isn't out...
I actually haven't read the book, but the movie was excellent. I think I'll drop by the library and pick up a copy of the book.
