I think I will be the first of many to say that what you are doing is perfectly normal for a straight guy to do. It is just important to make sure all you objects are clean and well-lubricated. I'm sure many members will have ideas for toys, but when I was younger small bananas worked well since they have a similar curve as many different sex toys do.
