Parents who make their children sick for attention.

I know of a child who is diagnosed on the low end of the spectrum and has also been thought to have ODD. I've noticed his mom encourages his behavior and tantrums and tells him his aide is following him so he will act out.
He is very obese and his mother over feeds him just plain crap. She takes a team of 5 people to the damn IEP meeting and starts drama for attention. I honestly believe she is making him mentally ill and lowering his motor skills and intelligence so she can keep him dependent on her throughout her life and so she gets attention
CPS isn't going to take me seriously and I don't think by state law this constitutes as abuse. I am at a loss of what to do. Help? Tell me I am wrong and judgemental?

 

There is a term for parents who insist their child is sick in order to get attention. I forget what it is, but it is a real problem.

i think you should call whomever it is you have to call and explain to them what you have seen and posibly get other mothers who have seen similar actions or whatever to speak out and hopefully someone will take you seriously and checkout the situation

 

Thanks guys I learned something new. My company has inside counseling services for the families of the kids in our programs. The child is going to counseling now and his mother will join him next month. I think it's better to let the MFT decide whether or not this is an abuse issue. I decided not to call CPS.
But on Friday this parent made a racist comment to one of the teachers we contract out for homework time. She is now not allowed on our property now and I have to have somone walk her son out every night at 5:45. ERGHHHHHHHHHH
