Hi all. I did a new grow a few days ago. Noticed some plants didnt surface so dug around and turned out the seeds had gone too deep into the soil, but all had sprouted:) So I brought them near the surface.

Then noticed in one of the pots two tiny white insects that looked like lice or something, near the seedling. They were really tiny and I only noticed because my eyesight is really good. Do I need to get some insecticied? Or is it normal to have these insects in the soil. They pot in question houses a seedling and worried about using any harsh insecticieds. The growing area is kept clean, so I assume these bugs must have come with the compost I bought. Thanks in advance for any help.

I wouldn't recommend insecticide at all - don't forget you'll be smoking this stuff one day!

Before you use any soil it is best to sterilise it. I 'cook' it in the oven at 200C for about 45 minutes before I use it. It kills everything in it, but your kitchen will smell nasty!

Could be fungus gnat maggots. They are more of a pain in the ass then a major red alert threat.

Potting soil is supposed to be sterilized topsoil usually is not. Never use outdoor siol indoors. Gnatrol, if they are gnats (black lil flies) works great.
