Like I'm in an AA meeting, (animal eaters anonymis). I stopped eating meat for about three months, got this crazy idea of going on the Atkins diet to lose weight (yeah, I said crazy, I know, stupid right) didn't end up staying on the diet but find myself still eating meat four months later even though it grosses me out. I've been thinking a lot about going vegetarian again, I think I should, I'm on the verge, which is I guess why I'm here, I'm on the edge, so push me over....please, just talk some sense into me. I know ultimately the decision is all up to me, I know this time around I need to focus more on getting the right nutrients, I know this time I don't want to stop, I don't want to eat meat anymore.

Alright.... just read two chapters in the book "Skinny Bitch" and they described animal slaughter houses, obviously as a way to try to convince people of the ethical reasons not to eat meat.... I'm sold. I'm keeping this book around just in case I decide to do something stupid by going back to eating meat. I'm done, I feel gross when I eat it anyway and I'll feel gross just knowing what that animal had to go through to get to my plate. I seriously was in tears reading what I just read. Damn.

    Good luck :)
Haven't read that book; I know all that stuff anyway and don't need convincing anymore. Can see how it would work as a motivational thing though, so yeah whatever works for you.

Welcome to healthier eating. All the farm aminals thank you!
Have some black bean soup or caserole tonight, maybe some potato soup?
Sooo many choices, I think I'll try some veggie noodles and tomato sauce!
    Peace to you.... Farmout :)

you have to find your motivation to start, and you might find additional reasons as years go by.
then it is such a habit that it becomes difficult to explain meaningfully without really having a long conversation (so you get quips for insensitive questions)
if the animals are reason for now, your own wellbeing might follow.

The atkins diet is literally dangerously unhealthy. It puts the body into a state of ceutosis or something(see: Dr. Weil's website)

If you wanna lose weight, I recommend exploring the raw food diet ( http://www.rawfood.com ) and start eating more organic fruits and vegetables ;P Vegetables=no calories=lots of nutrition+minerals=weightloss.

I was already convinced, just needed the motivation I guess. I got the book b/c it says its "A no-nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous" basically all the common sense about eating that you should follow but don't for some stupid reason to lose weight and be healthy... I didn't however think it had so much about being a vegetarian in it, in fact I didn't know it had it in it at all. Goes to show that when you need something the most it'll just come to you. I needed the motivation and in those pages I found my reason to be motivated.

I've got to search for healthy veggie recipes, last time I tried to be vegetarian I ended up eating things that, while didn't contain animal or animal byproducts, weren't that healthy for me, which is probably why I needed/need to lose weight in the first place.

My own wellbeing was the first thought (yeah, I'm selfish :p ) I want to be healthy. Eating meat just weighs me down, in more ways than one. I've proven to myself time and time again that eating meat won't make me lose weight. As Albert Einstein said "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." I also feel that I don't digest it too well. I feel foggy headed and tired when I eat it, and also it's emotionally straining b/c I do think about the animals when I was eating the meat, which is just plain gross. I'd put two and two together, thinking that I was eating meat, then think that meat is muscle, then think of the muscles on my own body and think of how I'd feel if someone was planning on eating me... I know, goofy, but hey, to each their own, right?

It puts the body in ketosis, which is an emergency state for fuel because you're not getting the proper fuel. Emergency state means bad news. So don't do it. CARBS ARE GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!! Why don't people get that!?!?

I get it, a lot of people get it... the reason they do it is because you can lose weight really fast..... I've done it before. I know it works (I did say it was a stupid idea, didn't I?) No, definately not the best idea in the world, also why I couldn't stick to it. I went to the dr a few weeks after starting it and she said my kidney levels were a little off, never happened before so that's pretty much why I stopped aside from it being WAY too much meat. But I'm past that now and heading towards the total opposite side of the spectrum... you know, towards being healthy.

    Good for you :)
I went veg just as the Atkins diet was really kicking off as a fad. It was interesting to follow the developments of the trend, learnt a lot from a 'how not to do it' perspective.

Yeah, so far this week I've been able to not eat meat successfully. I feel its more the other people in my life that want me to eat meat that is harder to deal with. Last night my friend wanted a cheese steak boli, I convinced them to get a cheese pizza instead. Tonight my mom wants to go to chilis and is talking about these fajitas. So I already called ahead and asked what their soups are today, there is a cream of broccoli and also a southwest vegetarian chili. I plan on getting one of those and a salad, I'd like to get caesar, but if they make it with anchovies like some places do I'll just get a house salad. If my mom wants to share an appetizer I saw they have a spinach and artichoke dip. Obviously not going straight to veganism, but I'd like to be there some day.
