From the Montrose, Colorado, News. From Montrose Daily News online May it fall on your heart softly with love. This is not easy to read...... Kara Skywolf....StarDriveMinistry's@... Murder victim ID'd Katharhynn Heidelberg Daily Press News Editor MONTROSE ‹ A Florida couple is mourning the loss of their free-spirited son, whose body was found here last week. The Montrose County Sheriff's Office and the coroner say Steven N. Kublin was murdered, then dumped and burned here Nov. 9. A cyclist found Kublin's body while traveling along a trail located in adobe-hill terrain off of Landfill Road. The cause of death has not been made public, but the matter is being treated as a homicide. Authorities are asking the public's help in catching whoever may have been responsible and have set up a hotline for tips. Kublin, 50, was identified through fingerprints, Montrose County Undersheriff Dick Deines said late Wednesday afternoon. Earlier Wednesday, Montrose County Coroner Mark Young reached Kublin's parents in Florida and notified them of his untimely death. The victim had last spoken with his parents a few weeks ago, Young said Wednesday. "(They) described him as a free-spirited Rainbow-type person," he said. "His mother was obviously very upset. It (personal information) makes him a person with a soul, not just a body. He had his life taken away by someone with no respect for life." Young said the family reported Kublin, originally from Andover, Mass., was frequently on the move and had traveled extensively, working at various locations. Kublin had reportedly been through Montrose this summer as well; investigators were trying to determine whether he had a Montrose address or permanent residence. "...There wasn't a harmful bone in his body," Young said. "He was taken advantage of several times, but he'd start over and move on." Investigators are pursuing leads related to Kublin's lifestyle. "We'll have to see where the investigation leads, but anyone who did see or assist him is encouraged to call the tip line," Young said. He called what happened to Kublin "disturbing," but not necessarily connected to other crimes in the state. "There seems to be a disturbing trend in this state of homeless and transient people being callously murdered. I don't know if there's been any connection made between them, but it's disturbing. Time will tell whether they're indirectly related," Young said. "We have a society where people can't, or choose not to live like you and I do and they're taken advantage of and preyed upon." Immediately after the discovery of Kublin's body, investigators canvassed the area and spoke to several residents in hopes of determining a timeframe. They said previously that it didn't appear as if Kublin's body had been in its resting place for very long. Attempts to identify the victim turned up Kublin's 1998 driver's license, Deines said, and the photograph from that document has been released in order to assist the investigation. Changes to Kublin's appearance since that time include the loss of his right front tooth and possibly the growth of long dreadlocks and full, heavy beard. Young said Kublin's family reported he had more gray hair than is shown in the picture and the last time they saw him, he was thinner than he appears on his driver's license. The comparative lack of knowledge about the victim's local movements is complicating the investigation, Deines said. "Fewer people know him or would know anything about him. It's going to complicate things. It will make it more difficult, especially with determining motive, figuring out why anybody would've wanted to kill this individual," he said. Young said it could be some time before the cause of death is made public. He also said detectives need to hear from anyone who saw Kublin or know anything about what happened. "We're just trying to do what's in the best interests of the investigation," he said. Though Kublin was found here, Deines said it's not yet been determined where he was actually killed. "That's why we need the citizens' help," he said. Anyone with information should call the hotline number at 252-4051. Phone lines will be staffed from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. ‹‹‹ The Victim ‹ 50 years old ‹ ‹ Described as free spirit ‹ ‹ Traveled frequently ‹ ‹ Worked odd jobs ‹ ‹ Attracted to the Rainbow People lifestyle ‹ ‹ Originally from Andover, Mass. ‹ ‹ Apparently passed through Montrose this summer ‹ Known about the victim? It's thought that he traveled through the Montrose area this summer; investigators would like to speak with anyone who saw him. Not sure if he ever worked in Montrose, or how long he'd been here prior to being found. if you doubt you knew brother Steve, go to the agr archives at the moon gulch site and look up Kara's jpeg. This is terribly saddening news. I can't believe someone would do that to him! I hope they catch whomever did it! See you somewhere over the rainbow, brother Steve. Give my regards to the White Buffalo Farm and P.P.K. folks.
I decided to post the picture of Steve in commeroration and for those of you who can't find it and want to see who he was. R.I.P. Steve. Loving you family!
such sad news! I never knew this brother, but I hope they're treating him well where ever he may be right now. I hope they catch the person who did this terrible act! My heart goes out to his family and friends.
Things like this make me wonder if it is too late for hope... Its terrible, All over the place, everytime I pick up a paper, or turn on the news, rapes, kidnappings, murders... And something like that happening so close to home, to one of our own... My love goes out to that brother, and those who are left without him. I just want to take a moment of silence, not only for our brother steve, but to all who suffer from illusion, and those who fall victim. Keep fighting the good fight, brothers and sisters....
very well said chevy.. everytime 1 of our good brothers or sisters is taken from us it hurts us all so much.. wether we knew him or not, i'm sure over the years ive met a few 'dreadlock steve's over the years & wish i knew wich one he was but my heart goes out to his family and al who knew and loved him and all who never had the chance to edit just noticed you added his picture and yes now i do know him i can't believe this happened to him..it just doesnt make sence
I am so Thankful to have known him Carry him close to you as I have been told he was cleansing, fasting and praying in an Inipi Lodge 2 weeks prior to his death, in preparation for the TGC. I believe that he is helping our Family through these difficult & dark times by being in his purist form, his light body. He is very close, if you see him, just give him your love and he will spread it out over the universe like a blanket . OM SHANTI OM
this is tragic & terrible news. we too heard that Steve was fasting & purifying for TGC; a brother came to Austin in his place and a memorial was set up for Steve. May his beautiful soul travel eternally in peace.
Sounds like he was the victim of a serial killer to me. I noticed how they had yet to "make any connection" from this killing to the other implied killings in the area. I hope they find the perp ASAP. So sorry Steve.
Just talked with a Colorado cop to see how their case was going --, they have DNA of the killer-- fuck yeah, go Steve, you strong and beautiful man got a piece of the guy-- so if the guy ever turns up for anything else he's toast. If anyone meets a creep on the road picking up your hitching self I say grab a hair sample and send it to Colorado.
Awww it is always sad news to hear that we've lost a fellow brother or sister... reading the warm thoughts about him i wish i had had the opportunity to know him... Blessings and prayers to his friends and family...
Hello Family, This Is Buffalo Steve Of The Buffalo Tribe In Palominas Arizona, We All Here Are Sad And In Awe That This Tragidy Could Happen To Such A Brother Of Love, Our Heartsong Goes Out To All Who Knew Steven Kublin, He Was One Who Was Far And Few Between, You Just Dont Meet A Brother Like Him Everyday, We Send Our Love To All His Family And Ours, We Will See You In The Big Meadow Some Day, Brother, Love The Buffalo Tribe,
I met steve once. I couldn't stop talking about him ,because I had never met anyone like him. I was telling my husband about this guy I met ,that I connected with and talked to about different herbs .I told him he had to meet him. He was something special. He was someone with a great connection to something else.Something I couldn't understand,I felt like he knew things I could never know. I wish my husband could have met him and so does he.I couldn't and can't describe the energy he had pouring from his soul. I met him a couple days before someone removed him from this place. I have been thinking about him from the moment I met him . I really can't believe someone would do that to him . The person who did this must have no heart and no sense of good. I hope this person is found,so they can't hurt any more steve's,not that there are many left. I barely new you steve, but our souls were not strangers.Hope to see you in the next one Mama T
My name is Ron Kublin. Steven Kublin was my brother. On behalf of Steve's family, I want to thank all of you for your kind words over these months. Thank you for remembering him. Thank you for the pictures. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive. All my life, as far back as I can remember, Steve was different. Often misunderstood by those living a more (please forgive me here) "traditional" lifestyle, Steven had much difficulty as a young man. As his relationship with the earth, the woods, the sky, the sun, the ocean and like-minded people grew closer, his relationship to some of us grew more distant. I am deeply saddened by the loss of my brother and am haunted that such a gentle man left this world a victim of the violence he and my entire family find so abhorent. But our grief is lessened with the knowledge that there were those who loved him as much as we did and walked alongside him as he trudged the road of happy destiny. Thank you all. ron kublin
It's terrible that he had to leave the earth this way but it sounds like he was a really strong, good spirit, and those are the type that shoot straight to the heart of God when they pass. I wish I could have known him, and I'm sure everyones memories of him are reminding him how important he was to everyone, rest in peace steve
Stories like this break my heart. How someone could do this to another human being... R.I.P Steve, wherever you are.
such sad news...at first i wasn't sure if i knew this brother but when i saw his picture...i remember meeting him at my first gathering vermont in 1991. he still had his locks then and was wearing a loincloth made out of a burlap potato sack. he definately made an impression on me...as i'm sure he will continue to do as he makes passage. shine on brother...we will meet again someday.
Dear Steve if you are listening, I hope the big rainbow in the sky suits your fancy... our hearts go out to you brother.
