I make my own clothes, but have one problem. As a plus size gal, I have a large chest. Well, I hate wearing a bra, but I also hate to jiggle . I'm trying to come up with ideas for something in tops to support the chest without a bra. One top I'd like to make would be like a halter, but full length like a shirt, but it ties around the neck, so don't want all the weight from the chest on my neck, but want some support without the bra also. Any ideas here would be great.
With the halter-style top, instead of ties coming up the front and the knot sitting behind the neck, could you make it that there are ties front and back, and the knots sit on your shoulders? Might be a bit more comfy, and you could potentially wear the top a few different ways - front ties crossed over, back ties crossed over, both crossed, both uncrossed... Good luck!
Have you tried looking at sports bras? They make some pretty nice ones these days that don't give you a mono-boob and they would look ok if the straps are showing.
sounds like a long apron top, where ties can distribute weight. wide straps help in that redistribution, too, as well as placement. I like Ethel's option, maybe with a strap under the bust to "contain" them?
I am a big chested mama too. I saw some interesting material at Joannes that is basically a pregathered smocked elastic top (like the old tube tops) that you could sew into a dress that I think would hold me in without putting too much pressure on the straps. I was thinking of making that top with some matching patchwork for the summer.
