Hi all! The wife and I are headed for Austin in Feb or early March. We will be chillin on 6th street for a Thursday night. Friday we have to roll out to Tyler to visit my grandmother. Anyone feel like having drinks payed for, for the night?
BUMP! We are now talking early March w/ April as a back-up plan. We are also considering switching the days so that we would be looking for live music and partying in Austin on Friday instead of Wednesday.
I live just south of austin it matters now 6th street is always hopping and congress and 4th are good also Kathleen
Y'all are gonna have the best time coming to Austin during SxSW...tons of people in town, tons of music, films...it one of the biggest events of the year! check this out http://2007.sxsw.com for some info but be aware that you don't have to register to have fun...the whole city gets involved, neighborhoods have festivals, there's a big free festival at Auditoirum Shores...even restarants and stores will have bands playing. Best Advice: Make any hotel/motel or campground reservations now!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent news. Thanks for the heads up! We will be in Austin Sat. March 10th. Tyler on the 11th & 12th. And back to Austin for Tues. night the 13th. Sounds like we will miss most of the official music part of the festival but we will be there for 2 good film nights. I'm sure we will find live music on the 10th and 13th as well. Hotels were indeed harder to find than I expected. As usual the most expensive hotels still had rooms available. We will be spending a night at the Hilton and a night at the Omni. Not very hippy like I know It's all good though we do our 'roughing it' trips in the spring and summer. As a matter of fact our first festival of the year is coming up. Tree Huggers Ball in Morgantown, WV. Drew Emmitt (of leftover salmon) is headlining. Can't wait for that show. The Sunshine Daydream Campground (farm) gets cold as hell. They had 6" of snow in August at a festi a few years back. So a weekend at Sunshine in early April (13-15th), is sure to be interesting. We like jam bands, reggae, bluegrass, newgrass, southern rock, etc. At what venue's would we find our type of music?
Ahhh, mostly all over. LaZona Rosa is a hippie fav & there's a coffee shop up on S. Congress, Ruta Maya, that does a lot of live music, especially during SxSW (the coffee shop is a bit of an anomoly...they serve quite a bit of alcohol there as well as coffee plus there's a humidor in the back) Your best bet is to grab an Austin Chronical as soon as you get to town...they should have them in the hotel lobby.
Howdy Austin People! We are in downtown Austin partying tonight (Tues 3-13). Anyone have any ideas on where to go tonight? We like: 1. Reggae 2. Jam Bands 3. Newgrass 4. Bluegrass 5. Anything good Thanks all!
Check the Chronical or call any of the places we listed before to see who'd playing tonight...sorry that the weather isn't quite up to par for your visit
Just got back from diner. Z'Tejas is one of the best restaurants I have ever eatin at. Holy crap! They have valet parking as foes the hotel so rain wasn't an issue. Actually it stopped before we left the restaurant. Life is good. I am checking the Chronicle now...
On our way to Flamingo Cantina. Anyone that wants free drinks look for the guy in the back, long-sleeved, DC United T-shirt. Well that was quick just got back. It's 10:45. As odd as it might sound I will be at the Omni Bar from 11-12am. Might head back to the Flamingo after, not sure.
Tie-dye shopping comences tomorrow at afternoon over on 23rd and whatever it was........................YEEE-HAAAWWWW!
I've been told that the Austin area has a noticable hippie culture. So, are there a few like-minded people out and about?
i thought eeyore's bday was on the 26th.....i'm not too sure though. But yea, if you wanna check out the hippie culture, eeyore's bday is definitely a way to go. marley-fest is pretty jam packed with hippies, too. if you're in austin on 4/20, you'll definitely see an increase of the hippies in most places....
