Ok... I have some money in my hands and im going to be able to buy an amp or a guitar... But im not sure which one. I have an semi-acoustic electeric guitar already, and a crapy old amp... But i would like to buy a new accoustic guitar so i can go out and play it out side... Im not sure which one to go for... Im probably well get an accoustic guitar. but i would like to hear your thoughts...
around 300 bucks and maybe more (but thats getting money back from an addict... Thats going to be hard to get)... But if i get all my money back and go to work next week i can get around 400 bucks... Oh and I just play whatever... But im teaching myself blues, if thats possible (i should buy a book on it, any recommandtions)
i think you can teach yourself blues... if you have an acoustic why would you need another one? i think save your money for now, not much is going to make a difference if you're just starting out / learning. just play along to an existing recording, or try some patterns (google for some free lessons / patterns, chords, etc..). be expressive and consider NOT playing notes (space) is equally important in blues.. you're expressing something blue (depressing/unfortunate) and space speaks volumes. again, another acoustic is not going to make any difference w/ $300 if your acoustic is playable... if you get an electric you'll need an amp, so if you have a itch to burn money, then why not get an amp first.. at least you can amplify your existing acoustic-electric now.. an electric would sit there until you could afford an amp. if you want to burn $300 on another acoustic supposing your current one is not playable, then look at what yamaha has to offer, as well as the ovation's line in that price range... or maybe a used one.. go to a guitar center near you... good luck!
I have an amp... its an 15 watt.. if that means anything... its a little less then a foot both ways (i know that means nothing )... I don't plan to be jamming with anyone anytime soon... I googled some stuff, allot of them just give you bits and pieces on the subject...Thats annoying, so now im just playing around with the blues scales in different keys and i got my hands on a capo...I read that "real guitarist" don't use those... I think thats total bullshit... And thanks on the advice about silence. Im always trying to fill in the gaps... I should probably take a few deep breaths and take it easy while playing...
Woods guitars are cheap, acoustic, and resonate beautifully. We have a music store near us that sells decent amps pretty cheap. You could also try online. The reason I said that though, is that you might be able to pull off both if go about it right. For playing blues you might want to get a jazzbox. Also, my husband is sitting next to me, throwing in his two cents, saying that acoustic Gibsons are good for blues as well.
Whats a JazzBox? Gibson acoustic, eh... Going to have to find that one, i know one store sells, yamamaha (sp?) stuff and the other bunch of different ones, I could ask if they can order one.... I still need to check out this one small store in bowmanville, they seemed to have resumable prices. Also the types i wanted, parlor guitar ^.^...
cool a gibson! what do they start at, $700? this kid's got $300 buck that has to last him the rest of the month.. sorry i can't offer help on the low end amps.. maybe just save save save.. then get a nice amp.. fender twin reverb, roland jc120, a 50 watt mesa boogie.. nice and clean amps.. i have a marshall valvstate 200 w? 2 12's in it.. stereo chorus.. loud as hell.. but has a LOT of noise when you crank it up and aren't playing.. not a big deal really, like anything... cleans up with a noise gate on the bus. good luck
Get an semi-good amp and some pedals (or a multi-effects pedal, preferably with a loop function, those are fun).
A jazz box is a guitar designed specifically for playing jazz. It usually has F-Holes, as opposed to a traditional round sound hole. They work well for blues as well. Gibson guitars are indeed expensive, but if you can find a good local music store or really work on searching the internet, you can probably do better. Jazz boxes can also get high in price, but they are very nice and would work very well for the style you want. If you are going for just the guitar, Ibanez sometimes has decent, fairly cheap guitars as well.
