Excellent Site purple-moss! Muller's reference points out some of the mistakes I made building my first yurt, like using softwoods to laminate the compression ring or making the ring too large and heavy. I had to rebuild it smaller using hardwoods. But we had extra firewood that year :)

My only issue with bamboo is it's lack of porosity. Moisture between the khana and cover would cause mildew. And how would you build a comp ring from bamboo?

good point ...but if its just for short term use like a camping yurt ..would that be a issue?

and i have noticed bamboo is used alot in yurts and gers in europe ......that byrenes (the one in the link) yurt is made of bamboo ...i do not know if he has had a mildew problem

there is the possabilty of treating the bamboo with borax soap..it has anti mildew properties and anti insect....

as for the compress ring, it and the door frame are still made out of wood ...

I'm less worried about the khana than the canvas cover. Once you get mildew in canvas, even treated canvas, it's a beeeyotch to kill, and even then it will stain. But for short-term camping it's probably not a problem.

Totally fascinating...The pieces are finally starting to come together. I can see myself 'unplugging' very soon. OP, I really appreciate you sharing this information.

UPDATE: After cheking out the site you posted, I did a little research on my own and found THIS: http://howtolivewiki.com/en/Hexayurt_Project

You can soak bamboo in a boric acid solution and drying it for several days in the sun.
