It seems most Americans ( not all of course) cannot see anywhere beyond the USA. Why? I have no idea. I wish more Americans were open minded about the world around them.
'Best' is subjective but it's cool yep. You're probably the most diverse country on the planet so for every couple of idiot fuckwits you have a safe, cool person (as most countries do, people are thick everywhere). It's just the outlook and ethic that others may disagree with, as has been mentioned in this thread, the whole work hard, dog eat dog, kids being told anyone can become president (evidently heh) and don't question the government thing that a lot of people may disagree with, having had polar opposite values instilled from childhood etc. I'm coming back over there next year to do coast to coast kind of thing and am wanting to see some dark twisted buttfuck places as it's as alien and interesting to me as travelling India, S. America, the Middle East have been etc etc. You say you don't like the excessively big governments over here but they're not made up of a large percentage of people pushing a religious agenda/profit focused businessmen (despite the recent cash for peerages scandal taking place in the Lords which has little legislative power) which I feel is infinitely preferable to having such figures and people with their own personal motives for being in government. You're also not into the idea of socialised healthcare. I've always believed (and been taught) that health (along with housing and food) is a basic human right and that if the government is going to take tax from me and piss it on illegal wars and funding all sorts of other iffy activities then the least they owe me is to fix me up when I get hurt. The National Health Service (NHS) isn't great over here, in fact it's rife with problems and can be pretty dodgy at the best of times but at least it's there. At least someone who can't afford private healthcare is entitled to treatment for whatever problem it is they have. If you're that into it then there's always the option of going private if that's your wish. Hell, if the gov't abolished public healthcare I'd be out of here right away and wouldn't be coming back in any hurry! Church and state are separated further over here and the gov't has less of a grip on mainstream media as both of those are (seemingly) more unacceptable to average europeans. These ideals and values have been instilled in us from an early age, what children are taught from a young age is what they tend to grow up believing so in places where values are opposites people keep those 'morals' their whole lives. Just as many europeans think americans are pig-ignorant fuckwits, many americans believe europeans are backwards socialists with bad service and we'd all be speaking german if it wasn't for you . Same level of ignorance on both sides there. Blah blah blah, don't really know what I'm ranting about now, but people are fucking idiots wherever you go blah Peace from across the pond....
people are fucking idiots wherever you go Amen to that!! you got you're good ones and your bad ones!!!
The simple answer: the prevailing attitude is that the US is superior to the rest of the world, so there's no need to know much about it, except what country that we're going to drop bombs on next. And there really isn't that much to know even about that place, because the majority of the people just blindly trust that the government is doing the right thing by obliterating Whereverastan, or whatever country that the government has decided to demonize this week, in order to take it's oil, or for some other ulterior motive. God Bless America, the Greatest Country on Earth (which means God Bless America and screw everybody else). Simple slogans for extremely simple minds.
About the drug companies you bash as american, they do come out of Canada and Germany.. smart ones you are, you should know this. The colestoral drug that killed my mother was made and despenced from a company in Germany.. AIDS came out of Hatti yet amercia is being blamed for that too?!? The amercian people contribute millions to all your whining countries that want a piece of the amercian pie that we the citizens work our asses off so you can have a little of the freedoms we enjoy.. no one here is killed or tortured bc we do not agree in policy, we can speak our minds and not get shot. Our gov, never told porto rico to shot or toture anyone.. they do it bc they are not civilized. and btw your can't torture someone is already dead. You talk of america and her ppl like you know what your talking about..yet most of you only know what your own gov's media propaganda tells you to think. If you have ever actually been to the USA you would know that all this bs your spewing is just that BS, and that the USA is the greatest country in the world bc we do for other contries what they don't do for themselves.. we build schools and hospitals, we teach third world countries how to farm and send them tools and equitpment, we dig them water wells and teach them sanitation and birth control. We educate the women and teach them to grow beyond they slavery they indure and the heartbreaking mortality rate of their offspring. We give our hard erened money and our prescious time to help the less advantaged to evolve into a more civilized way to live. You blame america for things that exsisted in your countries before the USA was even established or even colonized.. our gov didn't just walk up and and say hey we're coming in and taking over.. your countries asked for the USA to come. We are damned if we do and damned if we dont.. but in the meantime while you are bashing us we are still building schools and hospitals and digging wells and all the other wonderful things that the american people do even knowing you hate us, we do it bc we love you.. what are you doing.. shameless_heifer thankful to be Amercian
By whom? Not heard that one myself... You've given us obesity via multinational fast food outlets, deplorable popular culture and arms. Nice one. Also, the arrogant view that everyone wants a 'piece of the american pie' is what makes many people feel anti american sentiment. No-one wants it as much as you like to believe they do I'm afraid, keep telling yourself they do as you dig your head further and further into the ground alienating yourself even further from the rest of the world. But what about people who have disagreed/disagree with US policy in oooh, let me think, Columbia, Chile, Nicaragua, Grenada, El Salvador, Vietnam, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Iraq to name a few. But, you know, they don't really count do they? Erm... but they told their own to.... You have to be joking right? You call US policy -foreign and domestic- civilised? Is Guantanamo/Abu Ghraib how a civilised nation treats prisoners? Well, that's where you're wrong. Our governments certainly have much less control over the media here. While the government will be backing the US blindly the media is a lot less biased and will happily criticise anything our government does. That's the difference. Over here the media and most of the general public aren't scared to disagree with the actions of the government. That bolded sentence just lost you any debate that might have happened. There is no such thing as the greatest country in the world and anyone who believes there is is blind. And btw I have been to America and it's great, brilliant country but people can be very blind in many ways. Noble to believe all that but for eveything done in Africa even more is raped, see the IMF/World bank for instance. You have to keep them poor to maintain your comfortable lifestyle. Besides, half of what's built is privatised to US corporations and not made so the truly disadvantaged can make money in the long term. If the welfare of others is truly cared for then why not invade many countries in Africa where the reigimes, and thus the populace, are waayyy more fucked than Saddam's Iraq? Oh yeah, because there's no natural resources or money so it's not financially viable. If it's the people that are truly cared about then why only go for the places with the money? You've been lied to. Erm, excuse if I'm wrong but... Erm... It's because of this very, very blind view of the world that many take a dim of americans. For every school built another is bombed and a third that was built ten years ago runs out of money and is not funded. If even an 1/8 of the ridiculous yearly US defence budget was really spent on something that mattered, world poverty could be a thing of the past. All that money doesn't need to be spent on bombs. You're not even half as much under threat as your government makes out. I'll say it again: You've been lied to. As long as you keep believeing their lies about how much good you're doing things will never change. This is not an anti American rant, as the government of my country (and plenty others) is guilty of many, many awful things but I'm not under the illusion that we're saving the world. I can't believe someone of your maturity can actually swallow this stuff. I find this a very closed minded view on things, that is all. They're all as bad as each other but over here we don't worship flags as much. That kind of thing only breeds more divisions and hate... Peace
Nothing wrong with bashing Americans and I like to see it all the time ON THE HOCKEY RINK! only there are they the enemy to me bless you all mucho love Andrew
Rev-I agree with a lot you say, however I think a distinction should be made between ignorance and stupidity. If people are raised hearing all the jingoistic, flag worshipping bs that we are raised with,it's understandable why it takes a huge effort to see some uncomfortable truths concerning such, by any of us.We're(in the main) too comfortable to look too far into the horrible things our govt sometimes does. The so-called leaders we have had ,have kept ,or tried , to keep us in the dark about the incidents we should have known about, relative to the countries you mentioned. Not to mention the assasinations in the 60s.This is ignorance perpetrated by the BIG money people, to keep us out of their way and unknowing of their deeds. As far as stupid goes,I believe damn near anyone can be educated, short of being organically affected .Stupid is everywhere, but can be dealt with.Ignorance is also everywhere, but trying to rid ourselves of it takes a herculean effort here ,what with the motives of the super-capitalists intruding into all areas of our lives.I'll repeat what I said in a previous post---an ignorant populace is a compliant populace. That's just the way they like us.Especially the pricks in charge now.It appears as if many of our citizens are finally waking up to the corruption and thievery taking place here and around the world by "them")us?)
Top of the shit heap of useless humanity. Why is it I and others can see that this earth could be a paradise for all, instead of "I got mine ,fuck the rest of you"?
hell, most people, secretly, deep down, think where they are is the best place to be. if they didn't they'd leave. most people secretly feel that they way they think and the way they live are the best way to think and be and indoctrinate their children to the same damned things. it's all SOMEONE'S propaganda. to doubt for even one moment that there is anyone on this planet is susceptible to bullshit that plays to their secret egos and biases is to buy in entirely to the bullshit they're selling. you've all bought in to something, somewhere, sometime. it's inevitable.
America just spreads its crappy McDs everywhere, and just thinks they are better than and loved by every other country..when pretty much most people everywhere else hate us. When my friends go to Europe, they tell people they're from canada or the UK...
actually, McD's sends its McD's everywhere. and they wouldn't be opening stores if those stores weren't getting business. so i guess those can't be all that hated, evil and nasty though they are. and i just tell people i'm am what i am. i'm not a coward. it's not like they're such nasty savages that they'll set you on fire immediately for being american. most people are pretty fucking reasonable.
do you really think you're not free? honestly, now. i don't mean "free not to work and still eat and live somewhere nice." i mean, do you really think you're less free than anyone else?
It will seem a little weird if we keep handing our government back and forth between bushes and clintons.bush-clinton-bush--clinton?What the hell?
