ok well, i read that each sign has a sister sign in another element like this cancer/capricorn or sag,/gemini or something like that. whats the deal here? i need it explained.
no i know certain planets rule certain signs, but i read that each sign has a sister sign, what would that mean?
This DOES sound superfluous. The signs are pretty much grouped by rulership or triplicity. I haven't heard of "sister" signs in either traditional or modern astrology, although some modern astrologers tend to create new ways of interpreting the signs and planets all the time, so I wouldn't be surprised. I wonder if your source was talking about rulerships and called them "sister" signs for some reason.
man it said each sign has one in another element very similiar to it, like gemini and sag was one and cancer and capricorn is one, i cant remember the rest.
You're reffering to polarity! And indeed I once read that signs sometimes tend to act like their opposites. The opposite sign to Pisces is Virgo..to Aries-Libra,to Aquarius-Leo,to Taurus-Scorpio..and like you said Saggitarius has Gemini as polar opposite..Cancer-Capricorn And it makes a lot of sense that you heard they are named "sister signs",once you realize they are oppositesThey contain each other to some degree
I've never heard of the opposite signs acting like each other. Pisces is water - i.e. cold and wet, and Virgo is earth i.e. cold and dry. There is SOME relation in that they are both cold, but they act at odds with each other. In fact Jupiter, the ruler of Pisces is in detriment in Virgo, and Mercury, the ruler of Virgo is in detriment in Pisces. So in a chart, that would not be a happy situation. Besides you know what happens when you mix water and earth don't you? You get mud. Ok a little levity for a Monday.
Well, nothing is clear cut, things have nuances. I found a nice article about this polarity:http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-3392.html "Alternately, notice how many great philosophers and theorists (a Sagittarian emphasis) have spent enormous energy "communicating their ideas" by "writing extensively" or through "engaging others in conversation" regarding their theories? Well, the quoted words are traditional Geminian qualities, and my overall point is that optimal planetary expression for any sign is through mastery of both its and its opposite sign's traits and expression. In view of that, I'll summarize my observation by saying all planetary energy is inherently dialectical, and that planets that work well for a person do so because the person has learned to balance that planet's energy across its axis of style." "In her book, Astrology for Lovers, Liz Greene makes a similar remark in her discussion of Sun sign archetypes in love, and she calls this phenomenon the "shadow side" of each sign. To explain the "shadow side" of each sign, Greene gives examples of how signs tend to express qualities associated with their opposite sign and she concludes her list by saying, "By now you can see what we're up to. Yes, every sign is secretly its opposite."
I know that opposites contain a lot of the traits of the opposing sign. Say Virgo and Pisces for example. They both are willing to submit to using their energy for others rather than the self; BUT, Pisces submits to the entire collective, while Virgo will submit to the boss at work. They are also both of the same quadroplicity; mutable. Leo and Aquarius are both opposites also, and are very independent; BUT, Aquarius thinks first of humanity and their welfare and Leo thinks of himself first. Again they are both fixed signs of the same quadraplicity like all opposites. You can see the way signs of polarity have similarities if you look close.
