Hi! I'm new here so I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times. Anyway, I have been gay my entire life, but I never had sexual contact with any man except my current boyfrien. Niether of us have had ANY sexual contact whatsoever (kissing, oral, anal) with another man (or woman) in our entire lives, we are both in our 20's. I just wanted to ask if there was ANY way we could contract a disease if niether of us have had any sexual contact, and had been tested negative prior to sexual activity?
The only way you could contract a disease in that case is if you (or your partner) were born with it. Some mothers with sexually transmitted and other diseases have the potential to pass the illness on to their child. This is only if you are absolutely sure that neither of you has had any sexual contact with anyone else, however.
Though the risks are low with your limited sexual contact, sexual contact is NOT the only way to contract many STDs. Many STDs can be contracted though blood transfusions, though it's rare now [this can include, but is not limited to, HIV and syphillis]. Syphillis can sometimes be contracted through non-sexual contact with sores. Hep B and oral herpes can be contracted through contact with infected bodily fluids *including* saliva- some doctors will say that this can include simply sharing a glass with an infected person in rare cases. And, as someone else already mentioned, many STDs can be passed from mother to child at birth. Most STDs can potentially remain latent and show no symptoms for years, but can still be passed to partners during that time. The upshot is, you are almost definitely safe. Getting tested regularly is a good habit to get into- as much as you may love and trust any partner that you're with, there's no way to know for SURE that they will never be unfaithful in any way, so even when you're in a committed relationship, it's best to get tested every 6 months to 1 year.
Adamness is right. You can get STDs through other means besides sexual intercourse. I think this is a bit far fetched, but I heard somewhere the other day that you can contract some STDs from hand towels.
