hey guys and gals As I've mentioned before I've got a group of 12 going to amsterdam april the 12th to the 15th for a bachelor party. Unfortunately one of the guys had a very serious leg surgery back in january and he is recovering however his mobility in not great and walking around a city like amsterdam wil be quite difficult for him. I was hoping some of you locals might be able to advise me as to what other forms of transportation may be avalible to him. Taxis will get far too expensive. Bikes are also out smae reason as the walking. I am aware of the tram system, just unsure of his ability to get from tram stop to tram stop . same thing goes for the buses. Is there any kind of moped or vespa rental? or any other moterized compact transportation. thaks for yor help
Trams are generally well accessible for handicapped people. Same goes for trains. Buses: sometimes. I think www.macbike.nl has a riksja for rent (who's going to ride that haha!), but unfortunately it's not on their website. It may be worth emailing them though. Moped or vespa rental is not very common in the netherlands. This is due to the fact that you need to have a sort of driving licence and the bloody things are expensive and often get stolen. Perhaps a bike rental has a 'snorfiets' or electrical bike ('spartamet'): you don't need a licence or helmet, but it won't go any faster than 30 km/hour. The best thing in my opinion is a 'bakfiets': http://theatergezelschap.meteenstaartje.nl/homepage/show/view.php?id=63823 These are available for rent (handy when you have to move some large stuff) but it is illegal to transport a person. But, just say your a tourist and 'i didn't know' bla bla and perhaps you won't have to pay the fine.
thanks kitty I found scootercity.nl they rent mopeds for 35 euro a day which is not bad. and an american drives license is all we need but thanks i looked up the links you gave me and i'm not so sure about the flatbed bike. but thnks for the info
