There are two criteria for this thread: the song must be (1) rare, one that most people probably have not heard. Think of all the songs in your playlist and than recommend an (2) intense song. To aid people in finding that gem in other words. I will start: Simon Finn - Jerusalem is one of the more intense rare songs I have heard. Done in 1969, it is described like this from allmusic "The centerpiece is the epic "Jerusalem." With maniacally strummed acoustic guitars, a swirling church organ, hand drums, and a muddy bassline, Finn iterates the vision of Christ as he walked through the city and was crucified by the very people who praised his name, and he equates Christ with the 1960s counterculture ideals. The crux of the song is the terror and rage that Christ would feel were he to return and be crucified in the current millennium by those who profess his name. Finn begins softly, sadly, and soon begins ranting and screaming as the music gathers in intensity and menace until it becomes utterly frightening." Again, avoid mainstream songs. The point is to learn about rare songs and learn about songs many may have missed over the years. Focus: what are some rare and intense songs you know of?
tripsichord formed in 1967in the north west they were originally called BAN and then NOW before moving to san francisco.Lots of west coast acid guitar jamming.------tripsichord(music box):family song (1969)
Nice idea for a thread. Try to look for Ramases - Life child. Or, slightly less rare but also pretty unknown the cover of it by Liquid visions. I like that one better. First released on Space hymns in 1971. It's a bit folky with the use of flutes and such, but it sure rocks. Good psychedelic rock. Covered by the German psychedelic rock band Liquid Visions in 1999 on their selftitled album. They also do a cover on it of The Open Mind's Magic potion, but that one's surely less good then the original. Liquid Vision's version of Life child really rocks though. Less folk, but still kind of mellow, pure psychedelic rock. Very nice guitar on it! I recommend it! Try the original version as well, of course
Cool. I am glad I got some replies and suprised as well, didn't expect that. And they ended up being bands that many seem to consider gems and rare from what I have read. I qued that up, thanks as for ramases, I have listened to them. Outside of a few songs, the cd just never stuck with me. Thanks however!
Yeah, the whole album isn't great. Life child is the highlight in my opinion. Did you check out Liquid Vision's version of it? They did a great job on it! Alright, another one: Fooz - Mine. Fooz is from Spain and released two albums, the second one is more wellknown I think. Anyway, after I found their second album, Space is deep, it is so endless, which contains a cover of Hawkwinds Space is deep and a cover of Pink Floyd's Astronomy dominé and some nice twists of older songs, I became curious of their debut from 2001. Found it on soulseek, there's some mediocre shit on it, but also some sublime psychedelic fuzz rock. If you like bands like Blue Cheer, Captain beyond and Hawkwind you'll surely like this. Mine is my fav on it, but Space liquid is also great. Talking about intense! It rocks like an earthquake. Mixhole masterdoom is also on their second album, but I prefer the rough version on the debut. Well, hope you can find it.
Almost any song by the Brian Jonestown Massacre... it's hard to choose just one! I'm not sure about how obscure they are to everyone, but they can be incredibly intense.
Is that really rare? I see the Neutral Milk Hotel mentioned quite often. Ah well, I guess it's a bit hard to draw the line when something's rare or not. I wanna recommend Satori of the Flower Travellin band. It's their most wellknown album, but they're pretty unknown. Maybe because it's a japanese band? Anyway, Satori (which means enlightment) was released in 1971 and contains five wicked songs (Satori part I til V), with really great guitarsolo's. If you love classic rock with jams and electric guitar solo's you really have to check it out! They combine eastern raga's with Sabbath riffs. Actually, you should check their debut out as well. It was released one year after Sabbath's debut and it obviously made quite an impact on them. They cover the song Black Sabbath, and also House of the rising sun and King Crimson's 21st century schizoid man. But for some real enlightment try their Satori album first! Oh yeah, this is the sleeve of their first album:
I'm fairly new to the boards, but I haven't really seen anything mentioned about them. I have limited roaming at this point, my apologies if it's not that rare. But a fantastic song in any event. And if anyone hasn't heard of it before, give 'er a look see.
Fapardokly, formed in 1966 in california. They made one album of classic west coast psych-pop-folk,they evolved into hms bounty and then into MU in 1971.
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Switch well what i'm going to list down here aren't rare bands at all but the tracks are very underrated and overlooked by the casual fan Jefferson Airplane - The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil Black Sabbath - Megalomania (or the whole Sabotage album) Black Sabbath - Air Dance (and the whole Never Say Die album) The Who - Heaven and Hell esp. the live version from Live at Leeds JOn
I love that band, but hate hearing lyrics in their language. I'd say, anything by The Hellacopters. They have never written a song that I didn't like, and they have hundreds.
Agony Scene - Paint It Black (Stones cover) adds a whole new level and range of emotion to the song brings it from it's original, somewhat soft form, into a rage-filled thrash contrasting with the lyrics in a way that works beautifully The Unicorns - I Don't Wanna Die a creepy somber song that sounds like it's straight out of a Tim Burton remake of Fantasia The Clarks - Penny on the Floor a soft, deep, and moving introspective track exploring the lethargic struggles of heartbreak The Butthole Surfers - Tiny Rubberband I've never tried acid, but am convinced that this song illustrates perfectly what it would be like The Katies - Powerkiss intensely happy, a true love song, painting a world so beatiful that it's hard to believe could ever exist (don't worry it does, I've found it ) perfect use of bass and contrast between vocals and music
the third bardo made' i'm five years ahead of my time' in 1967,a nice piece of acid-punk.Lots of keyboards and fuzz-guitar
Good call! I only have "Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request" but I enjoy it very much. The song Blood and Thunder by Ultra Vivid Scene may be of interest to you.
Huun-Huur-Tu - Mountain Voice, from "Spirits from Tuva" I love and embrace Tuvan throat-singing. I practice the two common methods of Kargyraa and Sygyt. This piece is a really cool sort of ambient techno mixed with overtoning done by Huun-Huur-Tu. She Wants Revenge - Tear You Apart. Love this song. Maybe not so "rare" but I'm really into this right now.
