For all of you guys out their who have backcombed to get your dreads how much length due you think you have lost? Immediatly and longterm, I have hair that is at the bottom of my shoulder blades and would like to keep it that length preferably. Any help is appreciated.

well when my momma did them, she misunderstood and barely backcombed them, so that caused faster locking, less work, barely a loss in length and so on, so im not sure if i missed something huge or if i stumbled upon a new backcombing thing, or just stumbled upon something absolutely everyone whose backcombed knows, but if it helps, ive done my job, good luck

Started with almost waist lenght, backcombed till it was to my shoulder blades. Now it'll just reach my shoulders (at 8 months).

my hair was about at my collar bone...and when I finished backcombing I hadn't lost more than a few centimeters. Now almost 2 months later I've lost about an inch on the parts of my hair that're REALLY dreading.

I guess it all depends on your hair.

and wow, your hair is going to take a VERY long time to backcomb! can't wait to see the results. :) Long dreads are amazing. I want mine to get down to my waist. :D

Mine havent changed in length at all, they're shrinking and growing
at the same time. Its been four months, and my roots will have grown quite a bit but the dreads arent any longer (or shorter). I was expecting a lot of shrinkage, maybe it has yet to happen. :)

But i got some super straight thick hair, so im hoping that I dont loose alot of length. I shed like crazy and ive been palm rolling that hair into locs that arnt connected to anything, it seems to look pretty good and hold up together anybody ever nto backcombed and just palm rolled to start off with?
