My kiddo was nominated to be a poetry ambassador on poetry.com what thrills me is he did something without external pressure and reached out in some way. I'm picking him up Tuesday at the airport. I'll have a sign like limo drivers have: "Mr. Poetry Ambassador." Oh, and he beat me by two years to first publication..how cool is THAT?
Aww, that's awesome! So wonderful Y'know you'll have to spill the beans now, so we can read his work too. love, mom
mama, go to my myspace & look for Contego. that's him. everyone else, his original tag was mikaelmuerte dark stuff....
Please be weary of that "organization" they have been investigated it's a scam. They pretty much print everything that is entered. They will nag you now to purchase books with his poem in it.Be careful. Here are a few sites on it. http://www.eliteskills.com/writing_scams/poetry.com.scam.php http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poetry.com
I was WONDERING who that was in your #1 space! (mine's my lil sister) I sent him a quick message. love, mom
i was nominated to and asked to go to a conferance and i on purpose entered a crappy poem to see if everyone was nominated. just be careful
yeah, I warned him on that .. I'm in a Silver State publication, but it is good for him to actually TRY something (he's one of those low motivation teens) Mama, he said you'd written.
Congrats! Keep him interested, but do be careful of these sites and books, as they do try to get you to spend hundreds on books with your "work" in them. I got nominated in HS for one of these and was told by the publisher of the book that libraries do not carry their books, and that the only way I could see my work was to pay $100.00 for each copy, and that was in the mid 1970s. But, I am glad he is interested. There are many HSs that have poetry clubs ect, he may want to look into that, too.
You might want to see if his school has connections to "High School Writer." It's a legit magazine that only publishes high schoolers' work. I've seen it at Barnes & Noble and B-Dalton a few times too. No fees & no prizes, but you do get to see your name & work in print. His school's creative writing department ought to know about it for sure And I agree with you... I think it's awesome that he's reaching out with his talent love, mom
