updaye: Victims taunted before shooting GROUP OBEYED ROBBERS By Felisa Cardona and Sean McDonald Denver Post Staff Writers Article Last Updated: 03/27/2007 01:05:28 AM MDT Two men who police say committed several shootings and robberies over the weekend issued an ominous warning to their latest victims. "You know you aren't in a good part of town," they told the seven friends before shooting three of them, according to David Hensley, the father of one of the robbery victims. The seven friends had already handed over their rings, watches, cellphones and wallets, when one of the robbers started shooting. Hensley said his son, Dakota, who wasn't wounded, told him that he held one of his friends as blood rushed from a wound. "When they started firing, I thought I was going to die right there," David Hensley said his son told him. The two masked men have shot six people in Denver since Friday, according to police. "Unfortunately there is nothing that these victims could have done differently," said police spokeswoman Virginia Quiñones. "They complied with the suspects' demands, and they were very brazenly shot." Ian Dumpert, 22, of Paola, Kan.; John Watt, 22, of Wamego, Kan.; and Joseph Kuebel, 23, of Glen Ellyn, Ill., were wounded after they had left a concert at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom near 25th and Welton streets. Dumpert was listed in serious condition, and Watt and Kuebel were in fair condition Monday at Denver Health Medical Center, said hospital spokeswoman Dee Martinez. Four other friends were robbed but not wounded. They are Dakota Hensley, 19, and Kenneth Giefer, age unknown, both of Manhattan, Kan.; Trenton Foster, 23, of Lawrence, Kan.; and Jeff McGhee, 21, of Englewood, authorities said. David Hensley said the group of friends - mostly college students from Kansas State University - drove to Denver to attend a concert Saturday night by the group Zilla. The group rode a light-rail train to a station near Cervantes, he said. The masked men confronted the group as they walked to the station about 5 a.m. Sunday, Hensley said. That's where the victims were robbed and shot. The seven men were not the first victims of the two masked robbers, police said. The string of crimes began at 5:10 a.m. Friday when 27-year-old Marcus Bryant was shot at 541 E. 14th Ave. A blue Honda with tinted windows pulled up next to Bryant and the passenger fired two rounds, striking him in the upper left leg, the police report says. Ten minutes later, Thilli Matthew, 26, was assaulted in an alley at 14th Avenue and Pearl Street, according to a police report. Two men walked up to Matthew, exchanged words and then one of them shot him in the shoe and the upper left leg before running off, the report says. On Saturday at 1:55 a.m., 35-year-old Jeffrey Prall was shot several times when two men approached him and asked him for money, police reports say. Prall, who was approached at 1085 Colorado Blvd., told the men that he didn't have any money, the report says.
http://www.kctv5.com/ This link should help you keep up on Ian Dumpert at least they had a video on it this morning.
oh, cool. All that video is from the block Cervantes' is on. The scene with the cop car with a Deep Rock water sign is a secondary parking spot for me. I try to be under the spill of the light from the marquee. I'll go look up the Paola newspapers.... thank you!
That sucks. If you ever see me attending a cheese show , will you do me a favor and shoot me? Those guys are terrible! I walked out of last summers Red Rocks show. They need to go away. They dont belong in the same breath with the big boys.
your opinion of the first band of the night has nothing to do with trying to get some help together for kids who were at the Zilla late night. you also seem to be trolling, or at least unaware of how to behave here. back to topic, the ICU is running $4k/ day and the Dempert kid will be there at least three weeks. that's just the room: not surgery, food, painkillers, and all the incidentals.
You could contact KCTV5 from the link and see if the are setting up a fund to help the kids out they normally do for the local ones. See I am in Missouri about an hour or two from Paola Kansas I will try to call the T.V. station today and see if they know how people can help out then I will post it for you.

0ne's going to be in hospital a few weeks (with a painfully high ICU bill. Family has arrived.. Distant family is housing them. One young man is home in Lawrence. Neither the high school (where the long-termers dad works) or the local paper knew anything when I called. Left my info. Yep Mike, I'd gotten my Travis projects confused. I do that a lot when planning. See, I'm just going to support what he's doing. I occasionally log in, "oh, Jamie's going to be there," or "Jason will be there." I'm the same way with other projects. I'm much better than the pack who was accosted. They went back in daylight to check it out again. I'm unwilling to go down there tonight on light rail. (the shooter and accomplice are still at large) We'll see in a few weeks. the pack has a posting on the waka forum, btw, trying to work out something there.... if nothing else, I'll have a place for donations at Nedfest. I'm working on more. Much more.
You are wonderful for wanting to help I have been watching our local news for the KAnsas and Missouri area but the haven't been telling us anything sorry I am not more help on my end other then the link I gave you a week ago.
seems the benefit is two nights, how cool is that? The silent auction is getting some nice items. The only band to say no so far (and then block e-mails from the benefit organizers, whom they personally know) is Phish. Here's the press release, please spread it to any and all lists you might be on. Denver Music Community Comes Together to Jam 4 Life Two-Day Benefit Concert Will Help Recent Shooting Survivors DENVER, CO - In response to the recent robbery and triple shooting near the Light Rail Station at 25th Avenue and Welton Street in Denver, the Denver music community is holding a two-day concert, Jam 4 Life, on April 21 and 22 to benefit the shooting victims. The three victims, Ian Dumpert, 23, of Lawrence, KS; Joseph Kuebel, 23, of DuPage, IL; and John Watt, 22 of Wamego, KS, survived, but are facing mounting medical bills. The weekend event will take place at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom at 2637 Welton Street. in Denver, CO and will feature performances by several local and regional bands as well as nationally known musicians. Harmonious Junk, Home, AAA, Octopus Nebula, DJ Heavyhead, Schmocter, and Lunar Fire will perform on Saturday. Sunday will kick-off with a bluegrass jam with many local Colorado bluegrass musicians, along with performances by LadyFish and The Millbridge Brothers followed by performances by Head for the Hills, The Denver West African Percussion Group, and Michael Travis of String Cheese Incident with his band, Zilla. A silent auction will offer concert-goers a chance to purchase donated memorabilia from several nationally known bands as well as items from a variety of local Colorado artists, musicians, restaurants, spas, and music stores. Cost is $ (not determined yet) . All proceeds will go to the Jam 4 Life Benefit Fund and will be used to help the three incredibly lucky survivors get back on their feet. The three victims were waiting at the Light Rail Station with four other friends early in the morning of March 25 when two armed men wearing ski masks approached them and demanded money. They immediately complied, handing over their wallets, but were shot anyway. Dumpert was shot in the face. Watt was hit twice in the neck. Kuebel was shot in the leg and back The three were hospitalized in stable condition at Denver Health and Medical Center. Kuebel and Watt have recovered sufficiently from their wounds, but Dumpert sustained more extensive injuries and is facing additional surgeries and treatment. At the time of the accident, Dumpert had medical insurance through his parents; however, his coverage expired on April 6, his 23rd birthday, due to age restrictions. New policy restrictions on pre-existing conditions will make it difficult, if not impossible, for Dumpert to acquire new insurance coverage to pay for his future treatment. The money will help pay for multiple reconstructive surgeries on his jaw, physical therapy and months of medication, in addition to helping all three make up for lost wages. Dumpert, Kuebel and Watt were visiting Denver with four additional friends, a few of whom were planning to relocate to Denver. Dumpert still plans to move to Denver and has signed a lease on an apartment and secured employment. Melissa Smith of Golden, CO and Jay Bianchi, owner of Cervantes, are organizing the event. The genesis of the grass-roots event is true to the organic spirit of live music. “Hopefully we can raise enough money to help with some of these guys medical expenses, and in the process of that, gather together and rally enough positive energy towards the healing and restoration of their bodies and souls!” Smith said. Monetary donations are currently being accepted. Those wishing to donate should log on to www.jam4life.net Or http://www.push-point.com/Jam4LifeColorado.html.
