It's a question as old as time, well, I'm kinda tired of looking at all this other crap ppl are writing about on here as I was checking to see if my question has been answered already. Guess you don't need to know my story ENTIRELY. All I can say is that I tried it w/ my guy yesterday....ehemmm for him, it was ehhh...."successful" and now I REEEEALLY just want the facts: can a girl get pregnant by having anal sex?

I don't see anything in any of your links supporting your statement that "the average failure rate for condoms is 12%" (what does this mean exactly, anyway? That 12% of the time you use a condom you are going to cause a pregnancy? Or perhaps, like the other figure, that 12% of couples who reported using condoms as their only form of birth control ended up getting pregnant over the course of a year... and *gasp*, maybe they didn't mention to the researchers that they had sex a few times that year without condoms?). If it is there and I am missing it please point it out to me.

Also, when you go around saying something is a fact as you have done, the burden of proof is on you to provide reliable, trustworthy citations to back up your claim. Also keep in mind that there are so many factors and variables in every rigorous scientific study that no one study is accepted by the community as a whole as irrefutable evidence, but only when many studies draw the same conclusion is any credence given to the results by the community at all.

In any case, please be mindful of this when posting as fact things which you are not sure of yourself. When I'm ignorant of something, I'm not afraid to admit it. But recklessly spreading ignorance does hurt people.

Highly probably not. Although, having unprotected anal sex with lots of different guys (you didn't say you are sleeping around, but I'm just saying this as a general warning) is a good way to contract an STD, including HIV.

Excuse me? I was quoting the "average failure rate" for methods of birth control. Meaning, this was the average for couples using this particular form of birth control, regardless of how well they practiced it. That is also why the condom failure rate is 12%. The study also states that "condoms used perfectly" have a failure rate of 3%, not the 1% you mention in another message. Where do you get your statistics?

The Kaiser Family Foundation is certainly not a dubious source. I will be happy to post the broken link to the study, in hopes it will soon be fixed. It is http://www.kff.org/womenshealth/Contraception_Fact_Sheet_FINAL.pdf. As it was not working, I posted the other links, which all stated the same information, undoubtedly taken from the KFF study. Please feel free to email them, I'm certain they will be happy to email you a copy of the study.

I didn't know you were referring to the condom failure rate, but thought you were referencing the failure rate of anal sex as a form of birth control, as that's what the thread referred to. As well, I have provided numerous links that all quote the same statistics. It's up to you to refute it with your own "trustworthy citations."

You said in another post the failure rate for condoms was 1%? Where do you get your statistics? I can point to dozens of studies by medical organizations and groups, such as Planned Parenthood that state the number is much higher. The Kaiser Family Foundation study I quoted, said condoms "used perfectly" had a 3% failure rate.

You're backpedaling, attempting to use semantics to try and bolster your rude response.

It is you that have not been mindful in refutation of the information I presented. Apparently, you are afraid to admit it when you are ignorant of something.

Recklessly spreading ignorance? My statistics, from a reputable medical research group, say the failure rates of these forms of birth control are higher then what you state. It doesn't hurt someone to take extra precautions. It could, however, hurt someone to believe your 1% condom failure rate statistic and end up pregnant, or with an STD.

let me give you all some info without any stats or percentages, etc....

A women is fertile about once a month, sometimes she is fertile more than once but only right after pregnancy because of the elevated hormone levels and her body trying to get back to normal, this is one of the reason it is so easy for women to get pregnant again after having a child.

Back to the subject....Women's chance of the egg getting fertilized is about a couple hour window, but this means nothing really. Why? Well sperm can live inside a womens vagina and uterus for up to 7 days...yes people 7 days.

There is something called fertile mucous that a women produces when she is getting ready to ovulate and that my friends is the white stuff for disaster to happen if you are not ready for a child. This mucous is what helps the sperm live for a long time because it reduces acidity of the Vagina and provides a perfect environment for mister spermy to ride the wave all the way from the outside in. And it only takes one. Average number of sperm cells in the ejaculate of a healthy man: 40 million to 600 million.

With all that being said can a women get pregnant from anal sex? Answer is yes if the conditions are right.
