When i go barefoot my feet feel free. I like feeling the differnt textures. You get alot of attention but some stores and restruants wont let you in unless you have shoes on and theres always a staple or piece of glass waiting for you somewhere.

The only con about going barefoot is all the stupid bastards who insist there's something wrong with it.

I go barefoot because I don't like having hot sweaty and smelly feet. It's more comfortable, it's easier to walk, you can run faster and it feels better. And you don't have the distraction of your feet screaming at you to be let out, which can really destroy your concentration.

has anyone ever stepped in fresh bird or dog doo while barefoot? that is definately the con. ok ok there are others like stepping on glass.. getting splinters, stepping on bees, getting some kind of sickness ?? not that i have ever heard of one contracted that way but who knows...oh and worse yet.. stepping on a slug.... but anyway, the pros are...well.... its just so damn cool to go barefoot! i dont know why everyone doesnt do it...your feet can "breathe" you feel closer to the earth... as long as you have appropriate callouses built up its even more comfortable than shoes. nothing wrong with going barefoot just have to watch where you are stepping. the only thing that really bothers me about going barefoot is when my feet get all dusty and i feel my dry toes rubbing in an irritatingly dry way against each other... but that happens in sandals too. i just cant stand for my feet to feel overdry.

Has anyone stepped in disgusting stuff with shoes on? Since you were at primary school?

Probably not. Why do people always assume that going barefoot renders you incapable of watching where you're going?

And if you HAVE stepped in shit with shoes on you'll know exactly how difficult it is to clean it off afterwards. Cleaning it off your feet is really easy, you just wipe your feet in a bit of wet grass, or rinse them in a puddle - it's just like washing a bit of mud off your hands.

As far as glass is concerned, that's not a con either. bare feet adapt, toughen and thicken. Glass isn't really a thread. And if you're barefoot you can feel what you're steppingo n before you put your full weight on it. And of course watching where you step is a wonderfully useful way of avoiding it. Also most glass will get kicked to one side of the pavement or the other so it won't really litter the middle as you walk along.

To be honest, I often use glass as a way of measuring how much my feet can handle if I see any. It doesn't cut me, in fact it doesn't even hurt. And the really nasty big sharp pieces - we'll they're about as inconspicious as King Kong - you're going to notice those and easily avoid them, even if you're not looking that carefully.

Why is it that the people who don't go barefoot claim to know more about it than those who do?

I had someone ask me "why would a musician know more than my doctor about it?" Well the straightforward answer is that the doctor who believes it's important to wear shoes about it will not go barefoot that much and will therefore not really ever test his/her theory. If there's anything that might prove a barefooter wrong then the barefooter is most certainly going to find it. And there's not a lot that's been found by barefooters so far. It's all about common sense really.

I liked walking in a park barefoot for a while, but one night I realized wait, I've been walking through tons of glass... Also I've near come to having doo-doo on me feet once.

Hear Hear.....Question tho. If you had to meet a client, would you ask them around to your "office/home" and answer the door barefoot?

I've just recently (Friday in fact) been through the customary parent/teacher interviews and attended them (as always) barefoot. Some teacher friends down in Victoria cringe when I say this as it would be 'improper".

Just after some feedback on this, that's all.

    Reasons for being barefoot:

    Medical:

    1. Virtually every foot related problem known to medical science is shoe borne.

    2. The foot reacts differently when trapped in a container and requested to perform its normal functions than when it is allowed to be free and exercise its normal activities. There is a reason why there are so many bones and muscles in the feet, they are there for a purpose people, give them some respect.

    3. Barefootedness if embraced by the population would drive foot doctors out of business.

    4. The stresses placed upon the other body organs and superstructure is different shod than unshod. Watch a person walk on fresh gravel without shoes and then watch with shoes. It is amazing to see the barefoot person literally "dance" across the gravel, while the shod person tries to maintain footing on a virtual sea of marbles.

    5. When walking barefoot the knees have a tendency to bend. This is natural and allows the body to absorb shocks. Shod people practice straight knee walking. This practice tends to prevent impact shocks from being absorbed and dealt with by the body normally and puts greater stress on the ankles and leg bones. I am continually amazed when I watch films of large cats in the wild chasing down prey at speeds in excess of 50 miles per hour. Watch one of these cats take a misstep. Their whole body corrects in an instant and quickly they are moving at top speed again. The power of barefoot is amazing and it is understandable why our rulers would wish us to be shod.

    6. Trap the feet and you trap the mind.

    7. Shod is not the condition the human was meant to maintain and as such provides a condition favorable to the growth of organisms that enjoy being cultivated in damp, dark surroundings. Most of these creatures can not discern between a living host with a serious desire to create a breeding ground for them and a dead thing that is requesting disposal. When you smell someone's feet, you are not really smelling their feet, you are smelling the odor produced by the bacteria that are breeding in this dank environment.

    8. As I walk barefoot I sing. Since I am on the balls of my feet naturally, I dance to the tunes I am singing. I would not wish anyone to go through life dancing and singing ... what a waste.

    Peer pressure:

    1. Every other creature on the planet laughs at me when I put shoes on.

    2. I was born barefoot and so was every other creature that ever lived.

I had so much to say here, but I do not have the time. It is impossible to list all of the reasons I go barefoot.

    Sexual:

    1. Every move a creature makes contains seeds of all of its basic motives. Eating is not done in a vacuum. Walking outside is not done in a vacuum. Walking and eating (grazing) is a great joy. I do not know how many of you do this (eat wild as you walk along), but I can tell you that this is far superior to any high class restaurant meal you would ever imagine. Plus the food is absolutely as fresh as you can get. Add to this a degree of sexual expectation (or realization) and the effects are mind-blowing.

This sexual expecation (or realization) can be as simple as brushing someone's breast or neck, etc.

Where does it say in the rule books given to us by our creator that we must practice every thought and move in a sterile situation?

    2. Dancing is sexual in nature. Dancing is natural barefoot as the balls of the feet are expected to be in play during both of these activities. Shod walking encourages heel first foot movement. Attempting to walk barefoot through heel first foot contact sends interesting shocks through the system the first time a stone is encountered.

And on and on and on.

If you are really interested in the answer to this question, then please help me and list some more reasons. Otherwise, I quit.

I am a CPA and go barefoot.

My wife pressures me to put on shoes when she is with me in formal settings. Tax seminars, etc. However, when I attend without her, I go barefoot.

I cannot be responsible for the attitudes of others in regard to the way I dress.

My town has passed an ordinance that requires anyone who goes on town property to wear shoes. Obviously this ordinance is directed at me.

Consequently I no longer attend town meetings (having been arrested and ticketed at one).

I did go to the town recycling center Saturday and am waiting for the ticket to come in the mail so that I can turn it over to the ACLU as they are interested in going after the town due to this ordinance.

"Duty of care passes from the individual to the person who requires the requested safety attire be worn."

If you are hurt due to a foot related situation when shod with the approved materials, the management who required the attire is responsible and not the person who gets injured.

That's strange. What does town property include? Outdoor grounds too?

I don't know if the ACLU will help you on this one. They tend to have a certain agenda.

If the legal battle becomes enough of a problem for the town, they might repeal it rather than try to fight it.

We have the right to bear arms, so we should have the right to bare feet too. :)
