What do yall think of the quality of pet food? Would you eat your pet food(lol)? what do you feed them???
this isn't the same thing but I feed my cats fancy feast and some of it smells so good it smells like a feast for a king. But I won't. Just because I don't want anyone, including myself, knowing I would do such a thing
Hello! Our dogs mostly get fed dry dog food (Mainstay). They also get table scraps. A couple of times a year they get to feast on wild game meat imported from the Yukon. I don’t eat their dry dog food but I will swipe a couple of their MilkBones when their not looking. There real tasty plus they clean your teeth. Cheers!
Our dog has Burns dog food (dry kibbles). Well we did research a lot, and Burns are the best all round [in terms of quality, ethics, price etc]. The ingredients are good quality and natural; most people probably eat lower quality meat themselves. But I'm vegetarian so no, lol. He does get leftover vegetables fairly often though, and being leftovers of course I eat those too.
IMO the best diet is a natural raw diet. All my dog's food is human grade, except for the green tripe http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm Mainstay is not a quality food - maybe you would consider switching to something a bit better? http://www.dogfoodproject.com/ http://www.doberdogs.com/foodcht1.html
I just switched my kitties to Inova Evo. It's supposed to be the next best thing to a raw foods diet, it's in kibble form and is made with no grains and is high in protein, it also comes in canned food. It's something for someone who wants to feed a raw diet, but doesn't always have the time to prepare food for their pets....let alone themselves. I like that there is no fillers, chemicles or ingredients that I cannot pronounce. The only ingredient I was unsure of was lecithin, so I looked it up. Heres what I found on that: Lecithin is a fatlike substance called a phospholipid. It is produced daily by the liver if the diet is adequate. It is needed by every cell in the body and is a key building block of cell membranes; without it, they would harden. Lecithin protects cells from oxidation and largely comprises the protective sheaths surrounding the brain. It is composed mostly of B vitamins, phosphoric acid, choline, linoleic acid and inositol. Although it is a fatty substance, it is also a fat emulsifier. Hence, it supports the circulatory system. Its choline is useful for making acetylcholine. I've always known that taurine is something that is especially essential for cats to get in their diet, in fact I have always made sure that whatever food I ever bought had taurine included. Here's some info on that too, just in case anyone is unaware: Taurine is essential for cat health, as a cat cannot synthesize the compound. The absence of taurine causes a cat's retina to slowly degenerate, causing eye problems and (eventually) irreversible blindness. This condition is called central retinal degeneration (CRD). In addition, taurine deficiency can cause feline dilated cardiomyopathy, and supplementation can reverse left ventricular systolic dysfunction. (Pion et al 1988) Taurine is now a requirement of the AAFCO and any dry or wet food product labeled approved by the AAFCO should have a minimum of .1% Taurine. Here's some info on Inova Evo dry cat food: Ingredients: Turkey, Chicken, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Potatoes, Herring Meal, Chicken Fat, Natural Flavors, Egg, Garlic, Apples, Carrots, Tomatoes, Cottage Cheese, Alfalfa Sprouts, Dried Chicory Root, Taurine, Lecithin, Rosemary Extract, Vitamins/Minerals, Viable Naturally Occurring Microorganisms Dry Food Nutrition: Moisture........10.0 % Protein........42.0 % Fat........22.0 % Linoleic Acid........4.2 % Omega 3........0.50 % Carbohydrates........12.0 % Fiber........2.5 % Ash........12.38 % Calcium........2.85 % Phosphorous........1.50 % Magnesium........0.14 % Sodium........0.37 % Potassium........0.70 % Chloride........0.58 % Iron........330 mg/Kg Zinc........305 mg/Kg Copper........20 mg/Kg Iodine........4.0 mg/Kg Manganese........25 mg/Kg Selenium........1.00 mg/kg Arginine........3.10 % Histidine........0.98 % Isoleucine........1.70 % Leucine........2.55 % Lysine........2.98 % Methionine........1.06 % Met-Cysteine........1.61 % Phenylalanine........1.79 % Phe-Tyrosine........2.61 % Threonine........1.87 % Tryptophan........0.33 % Valine........2.12 % Taurine........0.10 % Choline........4011 mg/Kg Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)........4.88 mg/Kg Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)........4.98 mg/Kg Vitamin B3 (Niacin)........33.89 mg/Kg Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)........4.84 mg/Kg Folic Acid........0.71 mg/kg Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)........20.82 mg/Kg Biotin........0.48 mg/Kg Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin)........90 ug/Kg Vitamin A........22807 Iu/Kg Vitamin C........500 mg/Kg Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)........2262 Iu/Kg Vitamin E........300 Iu/Kg Vitamin K1........330 ug/Kg Glucosamine........0 mg/cup Chondroitin Sulfate........0 mg/cup Calories........1929 Kcal/lb Calories........4243 Kcal/Kg Calories........557 KCals/Cup
I feed my snakes mice. I might eat a mouse if I was really hungry, but I would have to prepare it differently for myself than I would a snake. raw meat is not good for humans. I feed my sheep grain and lamb milk replacerfor the babies, plus, they eat crass and weeds. I eat grains, in a different form then they do, but I would eat their food. lamb milk replacer does not sound apetizing to me in the least, and the only thisles I would ever eat are artichokes. my cats eat catfood, and rodents and lizards and birds. I like bird meat... yes I do!
