I'm curious to find out the general opinions of how people in this forum feel about movie reviews and the critics opinions. Are they helpful? Do they really sway your judgement on seeing certain movies or not? I recently started working with Ebert and Roeper and have gained a whole new insight into the world of entertainment and media reviews. I'm a big fan of their work and recommend everyone check out their site www.atthemoviestv.com , they provide great reviews for the best and worst movies today!

Yes, but only if I feel that I intimately share the taste and sensibilities of the movie reviewer. Which is rare......

I read reviews just to hear different peoples opinions on a movie. If I read a bad review I wouldn't let that stop me from seeing it

i dont really listen much to reviews. it seems to me that reviewers are very highly opinionated and try to dictate which films you should and shouldnt see. there have been many films i have enjoyed, as have many others, that reviewers have ripped to shreds.

I tend to trust the average body of critical opinion on a film (i.e. rottentomatoes.com), at least to a point. For instance, I did not waste money on Premonition after it got a 7% fresh.

When listening to the critics more specifically, I think the best policy is to find the critic with who you agree most often. For me, unless the film is in the sci-fi or comic book genre, the critic is Roger Ebert. It's been a rough year because Ebert has been ill and is only working part time. I like Roeper too, but not as much as Ebert. I agree with Alison Bailes most of the time, but I rarely agree with Jeffrey Lyons.

Not really. I used too but not anymore..because it's you that's gonna judge the movie, don't let the others do it for you.

i often find that what the critics say is the complete oposite to what i think to it they are looking for different things in a film i trust the jugment of my friends more because we are on the same wavel lenth but i like to judge a film for myself mainly. Its the waste of money that gets me when its a bad film it sooo expencive to go to the cinima now adays! but oh well!

I agree with critics at least 80% of the time, so if they agree with each other on a movie then I base my choices on the ratings. And I ALWAYS agree with them on horror films, so I have no trouble telling people what shit slasher flick I'm not going to be wasting my money on next.

I rarely ever agree with critics. I seem to often/usually like what they hate and hate what they like. Sometimes I'll read reviews in my local newspaper, but I don't take what they say to heart. I'll see a movie that I'm interested in even if they say it's not worth it.

No, not at all. They always seem to be wrong whenever they say a movie is bad. And sometimes, vise versa.

I haven't ever read a review that I've agreed with.. they are all a bunch of idiots in my opinion. If I wanna go see a movie, I'll go.. regardless of what a critic has said about it.
