this sping i want to take my savings and get everything i will need to go out and live in nature, the way the indians did. i know alot about this subject and survial. what im looking 4 is a few like minded people to come out and crete a new tribe with me. i dont know why everyone has to be civilized. people have lived this way for tens of thousands of years. and especially, very recently here in america. i dont see any reason why that way of life has to die. why shouldnt we take back whats been stolen from humanity? ______
I agree, it's more natural to live outside than inside. I've always told my family that when I grow up I will move to an old house in the woods and live out of nature. Everyone said it was impossible. But it's still my dream. Well, now I am a grown up but I still haven't moved  It would be lovely to try to live like you said, you just have to dare!
all you have to do is go, figure it out along the way...I have similar plans but mine aren't for this spring, maybe next spring... you ever think of goin south?
I have a couple of answers to your proposed questions. First, the majority of the worlds population has to be civilized in a number of ways now becuase the human population has become too large for the natural way of life, hunting and gathering, to support the worlds population. Agriculture is a technology that enables this over sized population to exist. Yes, unfortunately some people are still starving, but the laws of nature cannot be completely controlled by man. Second, the majority of people around the world want instant gratification, and convenience. Most people in the industrialized world are extreemely spoiled when compared to primitve people. I do agree that living primitively would have the absolute lowest impact on the environment as far as polluting is concerned. In my opinion, primite living provides the healthiest social and spiritual atimospheres for humans. I do admire the American Indians of the past, and the other indigenous peoples from around the world. Persoanally, I would love to live a very primitive lifestyle, and live in a cob hut (cob is basically a clay, sand, and water mixture similiar to adobe that is still used around the world today). I plan to live as closely to this as possible, but I do know that I will need companions to balanced and mentally healthy. Community is important to me. Now, a small tribe would suffice as a community, but I don't see any people around me in my real-time world that would want to join me. I also desire to spend my life in a loving relationship with a woman. I fear that I would not be able to find a woman that would share my passion for primitive living. Yakima is an example that such great women exist, but they are few and far between.
I know your feeling rawandnatural. All of my friends want a so-called civilized life with a modern and nice apartment, a wellpaid job and living in a big city. I won't say big cities are bad because they can be fun to vistit - but not live in. I mean, what can be more peaceful and close to nature than living IN it? Well, I'm glad there's some people here at least that understand my point of view Peace
Hey I would come check it out, but there's a slight problem seeing as I'm 16 years old...where are you going to be? Maybe I'll come visit someday.
I wish y'all the best and I don't want to discourage you, but please remember that it's a lot easier to take people out of modern society than it is to take modern society out of people!Good luck!
I completely and utterly agree, I'm planning the same thing, except my supplies will be self...Acquired, I figure I wanted to find something in spring as well, so that I have time to acclimate myself before the winter. If your up for company, hit me up here or at Darkfire_drag0n@yahoo.com
In response to your first point, the life of a "primitive" society is harsh, harsh enough in fact to cull our numbers.
Yes I'm down for this. do you have aim? I've love to talk more and I wanna go to the west coast anyways. LEts do it man! Howabout you schedule a chat with everyone that wants to get on this shit and we'll all have a rootin' chat party?!?! just an idea. Let me know
This sounds like something I might be into...but I don't know if I could make it to the west coast...or if I'd want to. Aeshura...where were you thinking of doing it?
And also...Like RawAndNatural, I'd want a feel of community. How big of a tribe were you thinking about?
Wish you well on your goal. I've been making a trip every other year for 2 to 5 months in differant places living off the land. Once 8 months. I'm leaving this June for my permanent move to the wilderness. It's nice to come across someone of like mind. Here's some idea's for you. While you can take only a knife and live some things will make it a lot easier. Take various means to make fire, tarp, wet wather gear, string, cold weather gear, food procurment. Carrying little as posible makes you more mobile which is really needed these days. You really need to be skilled in invisibillty. I've stocked up on supplies and stored them where I'm going so I don't have to worry about replacing worn out items. When needed later I can make anything I need. For fire I have ferro rods, metal matches, regular matches, fire piston, mag glass, fire drill i can make. That, a good parka, tarp, knife, axe, way of getting food, you will be OK. Gayedohi
I agree with you louie in many ways. I also feel that an indigenous tribal or clan way of life is the most natural, and creates the most harmony with nature. After all, we are animals and part of nature. Here's why humans as a whole can't "all" go back. The world population is now too large for the earth to support world wide hunting and gathering. Even a small shift into a hunting lifestyle would kill off too many animals. Also, our water is too polluted for humans to drink from streams as they used to. The wilderness could support a few more people in the right locations, but not whole communities. Horticulture, natural farming, and permaculture are feasable alternatives. Also, semi tribal life, or intentional communities are possible.
I just think it would be cool to be an ascetic. Basically alot of ascetics are so disgusted with materialistic ways of living that theyve given up their possessions to live instead with nature. Lao tzu is the best example. He was the founder of Taoism, but later left the material world to go live in the mountains of China. I am interested in living off the land instead of relying on grocery stores for food. Id like to grow alot of my own foods, or else move to Peru to be an ascetic. Id maybe still work at a market or something but not worry about having a house and stuff. Id like to live aside nature.
Well ginseng23, google "wild foraging". There are a couple of books on edible plants that grow in the wild.
Ha! try being a female and explaining to your new boyfriend that your only wish for christmas is a stone ax. *did this not to long ago.... Got a VERY strange look*
I wish I could join you! But it is difficult since Norway is so far away and I don't have enough money to travel to America, or permission from my mom.. Well, she would probably let me, as she is an old hippie..
