Hi I was wondering about this Gratefulfest. I have read nothing but good things but unfortunately I also heard from someone that the event is not particularly safe ??? eg. thugs, aholes, etc messing with your stuff ??? I am only repeating what I have heard but of course it makes me a bit nervous and I am looking for some validity to this statement. I realize that anyone can have an unfortunate experience at any festival so yes I am looking for other thoughts. For that matter I am interested in anyone's experiences at this event. Comfort, safety, crowd control, security, emergency services, ... I can already tell the line-up is awesome! Thanks!!!
always a good time. but if your looking for validity about the negative statement. ummm . .. i would say its valid. but that is true anywhere really. i would say gratefulfest is the greatest 6 day weekend you will ever have. it is the most beatiful, family, cozy place to be. but it does have a certaint element of thuggishness and junkies. as long as your relaxed and dont have much to lose, your in for the best time of the summer.
I appreciate your response TY. The fact that you refer to the event using the word "family" is encouraging to me. I have attended festivals such as Greyfox for several years now and they are certainly family friendly and even though my wife and I don't have kids we do like that fact that the environment is condusive to kids. It says something. Even at Greyfox teens may get a bit too drunk and somebody might steal a beer from your cooler in the wee hours if your not careful. I have not experienced outright aggressive behavior though. I think the worst thing I have heard is instruments being stolen and indeed that is my single biggest worry. With all that said, I'm gonna look into attending this festival. It does appear to be distinctive. Thanks again.
i would go. but i only travel with cheap guitars and lock em in my car. all the camping is well shaded, so you dont have to worry about the car gettin too hot.
the reason for all of the shows held out nelsons ledges thuggish record is because ICP would play their fairly often and other like bands so some the icp kids would also attend your other shows at the ledges but i dont believe there has been one since last yr when they bleached the beach with fanta and trashed the rest of the place with batteries other than that security is around the place is a bit sketchy at times.... ledges security that is not real police .... love the place and fests their though I still attend 3 to 4 a year.... never attended grateful fest though.... attend just about every show hookah is their...
umm, naw. ledges have been sketchy since i started going . .. about 16 years ago. actually alot friendlier lately.
shit i worked the for the guy who did the lighting last year and i got to meet the bassist for DSO! but yeah its a pretty cool place, there are some folks though, who dont know their limits, for example i remember last year there was this big burly black guy wearing nothing but a t-shirt and a set of tweaker eyes... i guess he was beating his meat in front of people and jumping over fences and stuff... but its a really cool place, however, if security knows that you've got a drug collection, there's the small chance of you getting your ass beat and all your hard earned drugs "confiscated"
"If you want a great place to camp ,get there several days before the fest starts.. otherwise you will be walking a 1/4 mile to get to the stage." Wow, thanks, that's really helpful. My wife and I are considering going. I'd love to hear more re past shows. Our only issue is that my sweetheart has some health issues, and cannot walk far or stand long without serious discomfort. She also has migraines and seizures, so we have to be VERY careful before doing anything like this. The mix of bands, though, seems PERFECT. But large festivals are pretty impractical for us. Last year we met up with some folks I'd met here on this site actually (well, in the chat) and we went to Appalachian Uprising, a really small bluegrass festival that was the most fun I'd had in about a decade (some of the same bands are playing GratefulFest- One Way Rider for instance). Anyways, this is a "bump" of sorts and I'll kick back and listen
I would possibly consider going to a smaller fest they have at the ledges.... I think they are funner than grateful fest! And a good percentage of these one way rider plays on the small stage.... Late night at least!!!! Gratefulfest holds its own seperate funness because its so big..... but the smaller ones blossom blast.. Summer hookah... swimmin or just cooling off in the quary.... are more of a laid back relax time
