I've heard songs like "Turn Off The Radio" by Dead Prez and "Guerrilla Radio " by Rage Against The Machine more or less saying that radio is evil. I've been trying to understand this perspective but I can't figure where it's coming from other then the radio for the most part will play a lot of stuff over and over and that radio tends to mostly only play big bands. Also then is satellite radio fix the problem?
they mean disconnect from the machine that creates a desire to buy, plants ideas (corporately packaged ideas, no less) in your head and generally turns you into a sheep. Sattellite would be worse, as you'd be paying for your zombiefication.
However is the concept of the radio evil? For example the idea behind the radio is that you can listen to music or some kind of listening entertainment (AM/FM), that said alone that doesn’t sound so bad. Now what I'm having a hard time understanding hhow that is bad, is it ads or the playlists or what is it and is there a alterinative or "right" way of having radio?
The concept of radio came from the desire to communicate and share ideas and art. Televsion was essentially the same thing. Nothing is inherently evil, it wasn't until these mediums were used to promote materialism, consumerism, and elitism that they became a problem. Not to mention they also both have a tendency to consistantly stimulate the mind just enough that you don't really have to think.
