Most of the "you'll grow out of it" mantra hits home as one enters the working world. Drug testing is out there and a good job is a good job. After you get a house and start firing out all the $$ in bills every month the $320/oz is headed to the grocery store (for lots of yummy meat and meat byproducts).

Arguing diets is akin to arguing religion and politics. There is enough research and independent study to fuel the fire on both sides. I have found that most people when asking for opinions are searching for like minds to support their beliefs.

Its best to leave it at that.

Funny story: (only because you say you like raw veggies and such) I was friends with an old dude from nigeria who had a phd in microbiology. He eventually had freaked himself out to the point where he would never eat anything (meat, vegs.. etc...) that wasn't boiled, fried, or irradiated to the max. He had a fear of parasites.

His advice: ignorance is bliss!
